Elizabeth Root Obituary

Elizabeth Root
October 22, 2021
Paso Robles, California - Elizabeth "Byby" Marie (Wicks) Root was born in Santa Barbara to Frank and May Wicks in July 1929. One of 9 children, Byby moved to Paso Robles when she was 14. She graduated from PRHS at 16. She met her handsome Marine, Eldon Root, at church and they married March 17, 1948. So began their incredible journey and love story. The newlyweds settled in Hog Canyon and raised their 5 children there. Byby loved travel and she and Eldon traveled all over the world. She never missed an opportunity to learn something new or experience a new adventure. At 80, she was in Alaska, catching a King Salmon. Two weeks later, she was in Florida, hunting alligators. Byby and Eldon started selling real estate and opened Paso Robles Land Company. She rubbed elbows with celebrities and politicians. She spent time with Ronald Reagan when she served on the Republican Central Committee. Byby even went for a carriage ride with Kenny Rogers. She was a talented artist and gardener extraordinaire. She performed, directed, and was a set designer for Pioneer Players and one or the original Barbary Coast Girls. She was involved in the development of the Pioneer Museum and served on the board. Byby and Eldon took archeology classes and enjoyed scouring the country, looking for artifacts. She passed away on 10-22-21 at the age of 92, it was definitely a life well lived.
She is survived by her children Casey (Caroline) Root, Nancy (Noel) Ryan, Jon (Cassie) Root and Sallie (Mike) Molina, 18 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Eldon Root, son Rusty Root and granddaughter Angella Root-Rossel.
Byby's final Curtain Call will be held at the Pioneer Museum in Paso Robles on November 9, 2021 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Pioneer Museum.
