Eugene Olson Obituary

Eugene "Gene" Edward Olson, 61, of Arroyo Grande died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at home, after a battle with lung cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John?s Lutheran Church of Arroyo Grande. Gene was born February 19, 1941, at the Swedish hospital in Seattle. He spent his youth between Seattle and Platinum, Alaska. After graduating from high school, he attended Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, where he received a bachelor of science in chemistry. He then went on to the University of Minnesota for his postgraduate work, earning a doctorate in physical chemistry. Gene retired from Shell Oil Company, in 1998, after 30 years of service as a senior staff engineer. He and his wife moved to Arroyo Grande, to spend time talking, walking on the beach, and enjoying daily life together. Gene was a devout Christian, a devoted husband and father and a cherished friend. He enjoyed working with his hands, both in the garden, workshop, and church community. Annual salmon fishing in Platinum brought great joy to him, his friends and family. Gene Olson lived his life for his family, friends and selflessly helping others. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Kristine; son Eric and wife Marianne Olson; daughters, Kirsten and husband Matt Johnston, Kajsa and husband Brad Bomstead; grandchildren, Karen, Melissa, Ethan, and Nathan; and sister Karen Enberg and husband Richard. He is greatly loved and missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John?s Lutheran Church, 959 Valley Road, Arroyo Grande, 93420. In Jesus Love, The Olson Family Arrangements are under direction of Lady Family Mortuary and Crematory of Arroyo Grande.
