Helen Larson Obituary

Helen A. Larson
December 25, 1924 - September 1, 2021
San Luis Obispo, California - Helen A. Larson, age 96 and beloved wife of Bert Larson, passed into eternity on September 1, 2021 with her children by her side. She was born in Licking, Missouri and at a very young age her family moved to Taft, California where she was raised. She also met her future husband in Taft while he was stationed there in the army for awhile during the second world war. On her 18th birthday, which was Christmas day, she and Bert married just before he left for a 2 year deployment overseas. After world war II they settled in Joliet, Illinois, Bert's hometown, where their 3 children were born. After a period of time and in need of a job, Helen persuaded Bert to search in California and upon securing a job with Standard Oil Co. they relocated to Bakersfield in 1956. In the early 60's an opportunity opened for them to purchase one of the early Sizzler Steak House franchises offered to them in San Luis Obispo, California. With no restaurant experience they opened Sizzler #34 in July 1964 located on Foothill Blvd. It became a successful family operation until late 1984 when they sold the business to retire. Helen was fortunate to be a homemaker most of her life. She loved her community and was a lifetime member of Soroptomist, very involved with Meals On Wheels, bowling leagues, and was a member of the United Methodist church. In fulfillment of one of her dreams, she became a pilot at the age of 57. She was a frisky woman full of adventure and loved to travel the world. She is survived by her sons Garry Larson, Gregg Larson and his wife Selina, daughter Trudy Bignotti and her husband Siro. Helen had 6 grandchildren, Carina Morgan, Jolene Oliver, Janelle Garcia, Brian Larson, Raelene Larson, and Nathan Larson. She also had 4 great grandchildren, Casey Morgan, Channing Morgan,, Beau Oliver and Cruz Garcia. Services in her memory will be held at a later time.

My sympathies to the family in this time. Helen and Bert I will always have fondest memories of their kindness to Carole and I and the family. The kids still remember the treat of eating at Sizzler on our travel back to California from Texas in Jan 83.
Also Bert's generosity to drive me and kids back to Sacramento when Caroles Dad passed.
Helen will be missed but not forgotten.

Helen was such a wonderful lady. She was a member of a group called over the hill, and knew my father Jerry Parrott. May they rest in peace together. She will deeply be missed.

When I think of your mother I think kindness. My birthday is the same day as Gregg´s. I remember your mom and dad both including me at the Sizzler parties. It is one of my fondest memories. She as well as your father were wonderful people. She will be missed.
