Jean Asher
December 28, 1926 - December 29, 2021
San Luis Obispo, California - Jean Marie Asher LOVED dancing, lemon meringue pie, the full moon, travel, a glass of wine with friends, & sunset at Avila Beach. She often exclaimed "I have been so lucky. I've had the BEST LIFE!"
Never one to miss a party, and in true Jean style, she blew out her birthday candles one last time with family on December 28, 2021. She was 95 years old!! Early the next morning, surrounded by her children with her favorite music playing, Jean passed away.
Born in Oceanside, CA to parents Jean and Joseph MacDonald, she was the oldest of three. The MacDonalds were a close knit, loving family. Jean's life was the beach & dancing! She attended Carlsbad HS & was voted 'Most Likable' She was the fiesta queen, worked at her fathers pharmacy & the hamburger stand on the beach. Jean earned her USO 1000 hour pin for all the hours of dancing with the Camp Pendleton Marines during World War II.
Jean was a UCLA graduate and member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She worked at the LA Times until she met the love of her life Blayne Asher. They were married in 1953 and started a family (6 kids!). In 1969, the Asher Family moved to SLO, where their best friends from UCLA days Tom & Kathy Coull, were living. Fun,busy years with a house full of teens, Jean still managed to get her pilots license!
In 1975 the Ashers moved to Mammoth Lakes and purchased the historic Tamarack Lodge. The Asher family was in the ski lodge business!
After selling the lodge in 1986. Jean and Blayne moved to SF to sell real estate with Pacific Union. They loved the real estate business and their busy social life in SF.
In 2000 Jean & Blayne moved back to SLO to live on a family ranch. Jean was on the board of Directors at the SLO Botanical Garden & delivered meals to seniors.
Blayne passed away in 2008. Jean is survived by her children Don (& Birgitta) Asher, Donna Asher-Ross, Jeannie (& Paul) Phillips, David (& Marianne) Asher, Bryan Asher, and Linda (& Paul) DellaPelle & step son Blayne Asher Jr. Jean also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
