San Luis Obispo, California - John Bedwell was an extraordinary individual, his uniqueness stemming from a multifaceted array of talents and passions. Armed with a political science degree from CalPoly, he possessed a deep understanding of societal dynamics and governance. However, it was his roles beyond academia that truly distinguished him. As a mental health counselor, he offered solace and guidance to those in need, embodying empathy and understanding. Additionally, his dedication as an advocate and program manager for Drug and Alcohol Recovery showcased his commitment his community well-being. Yet, his creativity knew no bounds, as he effortlessly transitioned into the realm of art, mastering the mediums of oil on canvas and glass. Despite his many accomplishments, what truly set John apart was his innate kindness and wisdom, qualities that radiated from him in every interaction, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his husband, Luis Castorena, and his sisters, Marsha Bedwell and Ronda Bader.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Dallidet Adobe and Gardens on June 30th, Sunday from 10am to 2pm. 1185 Pacific St. San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
Donations made be made to Woods Humane Society, San Luis Obispo, or other charity of choice

I was a young kid fresh out of High School when I met John. We were in the Psychiatric Technician program and he was very supportive and kind and always hilarious. John was my class partner for a semester, we covered each others back.
John was also a good friend and roommate to my husband Jim Duff.
John had impeccable taste and when he laughed it was special. My condolences to Louis his loving husband. My heart is with you.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. John and Luis were both so kind and gracious to me inviting me over for dinner and great conversation. I enjoyed hearing John's stories of SLO including tales of the Establishment. Grateful to have met John and best to Luis. Nancy Mann (friend of Silvio)
