John Weiss

1959 - 2025

John Roland Weiss was born on the second of February, 1959 in Glendale to Richard Winston Weiss and Barbara Jadwiga Weiss, He died on September 4, 2025 in Morro Bay. He and his then wife joined his parents in opening a Coast Electronics/ Radio Shack dealership in Morro Bay forty-eight years ago. John was added to the Redwood City Church of Christ when he was baptized at age 16 and he continued living as a Christian for the rest of his life. In recent years he was active in the Morro Bay Church of Christ, serving as a teacher and preacher when our preacher, David Ryal needed him. John was a wonderful man and loving husband for 18 years to Christine McDonald Weiss. He cherished his grandchildren, including his grand-niece, and was a great father to Melissa, Stuart and Jessica who follows her Dad's footsteps in Rotary all the way!

John was very active in the community, supporting the Chamber of Commerce as President on occasion. John was dearly loved and admired by so many people in the community including all his close friends and Rotarians around the world. John joined Rotary, serving as President of MB Rotary three times.

He started the Rotaract Club, (a leadership service club for young people,) at Morro Bay High School. He served as 5240 Rotary District Governor from 2017 to 2018. Covering four counties in Central California, SLO, SB, Ventura, and Kern, consisting of 72 clubs, and includes unique clubs such as a Chapter Club in Guatemala plus others.

In 2017 he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer which he fought bravely for eight years. His pain ended on September 4, 2025 with his wife Christine by his side. His children are Melissa Mathieu (Roscoe)and daughter Lyra, Stuart Weiss and son Brandt, Jessica Bailey Weiss (Dennis), and stepson Paul and wife Kristina LaTorella and grandson's Calvin and Eli, step daughter Sophia and husband Chip Laugharn and grandson Jack. He is also missed by his parents, Richard and Barbara Weiss, his brother Eric Weiss, niece Jessica Joann and her daughter, Yajaira. He always maintained a close and loving relationship with his brother Eric and his Mom and Dad, Dick and Barbara who he contacted and helped in any way he could almost everyday.

A memorial service for John will be held on October 11th at 10:30 a.m. at the Morro Bay Church of Christ, 1001 Las Tunas St. , 805-772-7248. There will be a Celebration of Life and a barbeque served after the service.
