Kenneth Jones Obituary

Kenneth Jones Longtime resident of Atascadero, Kenneth William Jones, died on the 9th of July, 2015, at Lake San Marcos, Calif., at the age of 88. He was a 1945 graduate of San Luis Obispo High School, and his wife of 65 years, Patricia Ann Moore Jones, a 1949 graduate of Atascadero High School, had recently moved to the San Diego area to be nearer to family. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Ken was assigned to Pearl Harbor right after the bombings as a Seabee helping to rebuild the destroyed hospital. Ken will be well remembered as an engineer at Caltrans for 44 years, involved with the building and designing of roads, bridges, overpasses and highways from Santa Barbara to Monterey. He also volunteered at Atascadero High School as the time and scoreboard keeper for both basketball and football games for 25 years. After his retirement in 1990, Ken was a familiar face in both the bowling leagues and on the golf courses. He was able to spend more time on his hobbies, including photography, painting, and woodwork, and his love of nature, gardening, bird-watching and enjoying the wildlife. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jones and Lyla Davis; brother, Reed (Jay) Jones, and his infant son, Richard William Jones. He is survived by his son, Robert Jones, and daughters, Pamela Jones Thompson, Margaret Jones and Kathryn Jones Horvath; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Karen Chavez, Brian Horvath, Ayden Chavez, Lucas Horvath and Clara Horvath; Colin Jones, Jacob Jones and Devlyn Jones; and Charles Thompson. Notes of condolence and remembrance are appreciated and can be sent to Mrs. K.W. Jones at P.O Box 2712, Vista, Calif., 92085. Sign his guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries

Ken, You take with you a piece of my heart. You taught me the meaning of integrity and devotion to duty for the years I worked on your Design squad when we were proud to be named the California Division of Highways. The gorgeous Monterey Freeway is an enduring monument to your engineering prowess. You were "The Man" long before the term was coined.
Thanks for the happy memories.

Kathy, your daughter was my childhood friend and neighbor. I remember you folks well. What a lovely family. I am recently widowed from my husband of 45 years who died due to exposure to Agent Orange in the Army...my heart felt condolences and prayers are with you and your family. May the God of peace fill your hearts with all joy and comfort.
