Kimberly Fleming Obituary

Kim Fleming passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at her home in North Grover Beach after a three and half year uphill battle with lung cancer. She was born in June 1958 in Norfolk Va., to Allen and June Ivey. She was the oldest of three children. Her sister Kelly Ivey lives in Grand Forks, N.D., and her brother Kenneth Ivey lives in Stanwood, Wash.

Kim married Kenneth R. Fleming in 1981. They had two children, a daughter Valerie Ann born in 1982, and son Donald Allen in 1989. Her beloved husband passed away in 1991 of skin cancer.

Kim never remarried, and devoted her life to raising her children and helping people recover from drug and alcohol addictions. She was the executive director of Casa Solana women's recovery home from 1999 until she passed away. She will be remembered for her bad attitude and good sense of humor.

A service will be held for her in May. Please contact family for further information. Donations may be given in Kim's memory to cancer research.

Kim was the heart and soul of Casa, but I hope they find the heart to carry on without her. She was a profound influence on many lives. She and I were the only ones who never gave up on my daughter. I hope she would be proud of her today. I will never forget all that she did for us.

Kim was my sister. She fought her demons for years and finally won. For that we are all so very proud. She found her place in life 9 years ago with Casa Solana. Her work there touched many people and her time with Casa was the happiest of her life. She was passionate and hardnosed about setting the residents of Casa on the right path. She poured her very soul into helping others there. But I'll tell you something...she always thought that she benefited more by helping others than those she helped. I hope very much that the Casa continues it's important work for those women who need it most.

For Donald and Valerie, be proud of your mother as she was of you. Make the difficult choices in life. Look after each other and don't forget you have family and friends when you need them.

To all of Kims friends, thank you for giving her purpose, understanding her quirks and letting her love you in her own way.

Kim will be deeply missed by many, many people. I have been clean and sober for 3 years because of her. She never gave up and me and showed me a new way of life. I will never forget all the kind things she did for the women in Casa. I'll always hold a specail place in my heart for her. My prayers are with her children and family.
