Larry Letters Obituary

Larry Letters Larry Letters, 40, passed away peacefully at his family's home in San Luis Obispo on January 9, 2019 in the arms of his beloved wife Nikki with other family members nearby. Diagnosed 12 years ago with a slow-growing brain tumor, Larry fought gallantly to keep tumor growth at bay, enduring multiple brain surgeries as well aschemotherapy and radiation treatments. New, more aggressive tumor growth began to get the upper hand about 6 months ago. Larry had the good fortune to be born into a large and loving family. He was number six of seven siblings; he was mother Robyn's first child and father Bob's sixth child. He had very special relationships with all his siblings but was especially close to his younger sister Meghan. A true artist, Larry's eye for beauty led him to a career in commercial photography which took him to New York, Los Angeles, Europe, Canada and many interesting places across the country but his heart was always at home on the Central Coast. In addition to photography, Larry was passionate about many things including music, fine wines, good food, homemade pizzas, campfires and gardening, to mention a few. His greatest love was his wife, Nikki. Facing the uncertainties of a cancer diagnosis, the two achieved a unique closeness and tenderness envied by many. Larry will be remembered for his kind spirit, soft words, dry sense of humor, artistic perspective and devotion to his wife, family and friends. Preceded in death by his father Bob, sister-in-law Joan and brother-in-law Patrick, Larry is survived by wife Nikki, mother Robyn, siblings Meghan (Craig), Laura, Maureen (Greg), Rita, Dan and Ann Marie (Hector) and two childhood friends turned business partners, Amar Sohi and Tom Buckley. Eleven nieces and nephews proudly call him "Uncle Larry." Larry's life will be celebrated at a Catholic Mass/Celebration of Life reception at the Holland Ranch on Saturday, January 26 at 1 pm. If you have not already spoken to the family, please text your RSVP to 626-318-1766. In lieu of flowers, consider supporting Larry's latest business venture, From War to Peace at www.fromwartopeace.com, or donating to Cuesta College Foundation in Larry's name. A special fund to support the Photography Department has been set up in memory of Larry.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of this wonderful young man. I had the pleasure of knowing Larry from my classroom at SLOHS and can honestly say he was the sweetest, kindest student I had ever known. We shall carry his heart with us.
