I need to add a correction to my earlier posting, and another memory of Marion. Marion and I both lived on Branch Street, when we attended Hawthorne Elementary School. Marion, or GooGoo as I knew him as a classmate and friend, was a bonafide gifted athlete. On the Hawthorne baseball diamond, where Hawthorne competed against Emerson and Fremont elementary schools, Marion was a star performer. During our junior high school years from 1945 to 1948, we participated in competitive noon games. I still remember GooGoo's ability to throw the football a country mile.

I was saddened this morning to read of Marion's passing in the San Luis Obispo Tribune. GooGoo and I first met in the 1930s at Hawthorne School, when we were both living on Brach street in the railroad neighborhood. GooGoo was a gifted natural athlete in his youth. My condolences to all of Marion's family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
