Marjorie DeLyser Obituary
Marjorie DeLyser passed away at Country Care Village of Othello, Wash., Wednesday, May 25, 2005.
A memorial service for Marjorie will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ontario, Calif. She will be interred with Paul Balding in Bellevue Cemetery of Ontario.
Born in Upland March 4, 1918, to Clyde and Frances Lewis Meacham. Clyde was publisher of "The Cambria Courier" from 1916 to '18, while Frances played piano, including piano for silent movies.
Marjorie married Paul R. Balding in 1935 and resided in Ontario. She worked for the California State Department of Employment in Ontario many years as a claims supervisor. Her lifelong enthusiasm for learning and reading did not stop with her graduation from Chaffey High School in 1935. In later life, she received an associate of arts degree from Cuesta College.
Marjorie was a faithful member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ontario and, later, the Presbyterian Church of Cambria. She never doubted God had blessed her with a world filled with beauty in the sea, flowers and a loving sister and brothers and the rest of her family and friends.
Following retirement in 1973, Marjorie enjoyed many years in her beloved Cambria, last living on Latham St. She was active in retirement and founded and, for two years, operated Wild Flower Shop on Main St. She also saved what is now known as The Little Blue House on Center St. It was a pile of junk destined for becoming a parking area, when she bought the house in 1975 and had it lovingly restored. It is now Linda Foster Finley?s EcR Gallery (Every Cowboy?s Ranch House). Travel, Scrabble, camping, gardening and wild flowers were a few more of her many pursuits. She lived with/near her daughter, Jane, these last six years.
Following the death of her husband, Paul, in 1969, Marjorie was married to the late Roy
DeLyser.
Marjorie was devoted to her family and friends and had a ready smile and laugh which accompanied her gift for hospitality.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Martin, David and Tom Balding; daughter, Jane Grant; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a source of pride and joy; brothers, James "Bud" Harpel and Wilfred "Bill" Meacham; and sister, Dorothy Sloan.
Memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie?s name to the Alzheimer?s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633, or 1-800-272-3900.
