Mary Huston Obituary

Mary Huston died Monday evening, Nov. 19, 2007, in Arroyo Grande.

Born in February 1923 in Hemet, Calif., she grew up with her five siblings in Pasadena, Calif. She married Bud Huston on November 20, 1941, and by the time he was called into the U.S. military in 1944, she was the mother of a two year old son. Their second child was born while Bud was overseas.

Mary and Bud raised their five sons in Compton and Burbank, Calif., and Ohio. When she was 50 she attended Valley College in Van Nuys, Calif., to become a registered nurse. With that she worked in hospitals and convalescent homes before retiring to San Luis Obispo in 1979.

An active community member throughout her life, Mary served as PTA president, Church Women's Association president, Sunday school teacher, Church Missions Committee member, board member of Republican Women, and a founding board member of the National Assistance League SLO County Chapter. A dedicated Christian, she attended Trinity Presbyterian Church of San Luis Obispo.

Mary was deeply involved with the family she loved.

She is survived by her husband, Bud; five sons and their spouses: Mike and Paula Huston of Arroyo Grande, Bill and Janet Huston of Tustin, Calif., Andy Huston of Atascadero, Marty and Donna Huston of Iowa, and Dave and Adie Huston of Alta Loma, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She died the eve of her 66th anniversary to Bud.

A funeral service will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Trinity Presbyterian Church (corner of Osos and Pacific) in San Luis Obispo, with a private interment at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park.
