Michael Reeves Obituary

Michael William Reeves, 54, of Monterey, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014, the result of a tragic bicycling accident. He was born in November 1959 in Torrance, and raised in Placentia, Calif.  Michael was a beloved and devoted husband, father, son and brother, as well as a generous and selfless friend whose unique charisma drew others to him. He was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Salinas (his wife is the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real), The Audio Engineering Society, AOPA and various other professional organizations. He was a pilot, a certified scuba diver and an avid cyclist. He was blessed with many opportunities both professionally and personally to travel the world, a sure measure of his zest for life.  Michael took great joy in discovering how things worked, and could fix nearly anything, a talent that earned him the nickname "The Great and Powerful Jeeves." He was sometimes referred to as a "larger than life soul."  Michael was passionate about the world of professional audio.  He worked for several companies, JBL Professional and Dolby among them. His most recent venture was his own consulting business which allowed him to draw together the work he loved, years of professional sales success and treasured collegial relationships. In his youth, over nine years, he journeyed through Golden State College, the University of Miami, and graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 1987. He often said "They had to graduate me or tenure me." Michael is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Gray-Reeves; daughter Katherine and son Dorian of Monterey; father Robert Reeves and his partner Renee Waltz of Nevada City, Calif.; sisters, Heather (Mike) Kociemba and Debbie Andotoe; sisters and brothers in law, Michael (Lynn) Gray, Maggie (Richard) Bouvier, Joanne (Marcus) Korvick, George (Sue) Gray; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. He is deeply grieved, missed and loved.  We now entrust our dear Michael fully and completely to the loving arms of the grace of God, which holds us all. A Celebration of Michael's life will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga. Donations can be made to the Sargent House Restoration Project, c/o The Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real, P.O. Box 1903, Monterey, CA 93940. Or Rails to Trails via railstotrails.org.

Recently learned of Michael's passing and found myself thinking of him often. He was a business acquaintance that became a friend. I'm sorry to hear that you left us so early.
