Nancy Stewart Obituary

Nancy Stewart Nancy V. Stewart of Whittier, Calif, was born in June, 1926 and passed away in her home on December 18, 2014 in San Luis Obispo. She was 88 years old. Nancy was a native Californian born in Oakland and raised in Pasadena. She graduated with a BA from the University of California, Berkeley. Nancy married Frank Stewart, Jr., in 1947 and had four children. She later went on to receive her teaching credential at Cal State Fullerton. Nancy taught 1st and 2nd grade for 17 years. She loved being with children. Nancy was an active member in her community; she loved it all and did it all! The Birch Hills Golf Club, Whittier Bowling League, Head of the Candy Stripers at Whittier Community Hospital, Reader at the local library and participant in many women's Bridge Groups. Nancy had so many friends and always made you laugh; she loved to tell stories. She never missed a holiday or event to send a greeting card and keep in touch. She put a smile on your face and joy in your heart. She was quite the "funny lady." After 52 years in her home in Whittier she moved to San Luis Obispo to be with her daughters and family. Nancy lived at the Villages where, once again, she made friends with everyone. She managed the Bridge Group and was an official Greeter and always put her hand out to welcome everyone new! She was so loved and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her four children: Sharon Wells and her husband Jon, Paula Etzel, Susie Crotts and Todd Stewart; as well as a wealth of 'grands': 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her love will live on in all of us. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local children's library. Sign her guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries

Todd, Sharon, Susie and Paula,

Heartfelt blessings on the loss of your mom, I'm sure you miss her dearly. It is hard to believe that it has been 50+ years since we played kickball on Grayling and went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood! Your folks were always so welcoming and for some reason I can still see your dad mowing that great big lawn! Amazing that both of our families moved to the San Luis Obispo area!

Ruth and Harry have both passed away several years ago after long lives. I feel blessed to have had them as long as I did, and yet, as you must be feeling, I still felt like an orphan when they were both gone. I treasure our lives growing up in Whittier and have very fond memories. Our parents gave us the gift of a pretty idyllic childhood in our little corner of the world.

Take care of yourselves and maybe we will see each other around SLO County one of these days again.

Love & Peace,
Trina

PS I am still in touch with Karen Bird and Anne Gauldin in case you might remember them!
