Robert Conrow Obituary

Robert "Zeb" Conrow, 52, of Arroyo Grande died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at a hospital in Santa Barbara.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Bible Church in Arroyo Grande.

Zeb was born May 27, 1951, in Santa Maria. He was a lifelong resident of Arroyo Grande except for living one year in Corvallis, Ore., and five years in Aurora, Colo. He attended local elementary schools, became an Eagle Scout in 1966 and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1969. Zeb received a bachelor's degree in physics from Cal Poly in 1974 and did graduate work at the University of Oregon in Corvallis.

Zeb was an avid cyclist, recently completing a three week bike tour of the New Zealand coast. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed backpacking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. He also had a lifelong love of the ocean and was an accomplished scuba diver. He loved to walk on the beach and go there to reflect and pray.

Zeb's greatest passion was his love for his Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of Grace Bible Church, where he taught Sunday School and had been a Jr. High youth leader. He was a camp counselor every summer at Camp Challenge, sponsored by American Missionary Fellowship. Zeb was devoted to friends and family and had most recently obtained guardianship of his grandson, Ethan.

Zeb was generous, loyal and a loving Christian husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his brother Mike Conrow and wife Ginny of Arroyo Grande; sister Beckie Gearing and husband John of Arroyo Grande; nephew Alan Conrow and wife Meredith of La Mirada; nieces, Beckie Anne Conrow and Laura Conrow of Arroyo Grande; step-daughter Christi Kubel and husband Mike; step-son Brian King; step-grandchildren, Johnny,

Joshua and Jacob Kubel, and Ethan King; special extended family Carl and Barbara Grieb and their family; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

When I heard about Zeb's death I was suprised because he had been such a great man of knolege from my youth group. Zeb was always working in my youth group on sundays and he always had such a passion for the Lord and he was always willing to share the things that God was teaching him. He was always full of joy and compassion for others. Another thing that hit me when I got the news that he had passed away was the last time I saw Zeb. It was after church on my last sunday that I was in town before moving. He was walking with his grandson, Ethan, and he was smileing and whisteling like always. He will always be remembered in my heart as being the most knolegeable man that I have ever known. He knew so much about God and about the world around us but he always gave all the glory and honor to God.

I knew Zeb for five years or so - here at Xontech in Huntington Beach. He usually had that great smile on his face! He was very helpful, quick, intelligent and so focused when working. I learned over time of his love of the Lord, his faith in the Lord, and his love of his family. In my last conversation with Zeb, he was telling me of his little grandson and all the things they were doing - reading, talking, bike riding, loving each other. That conversation will stay in my memory for a long time. Since Zeb's death, I have thought of all of us who lost a special person in our lives, but I more often think of that little boy and his loss - no more bike rides with Grandpa. It was a pleasure to have known him. He was special and I know he was also special to the Lord who perhaps needed him in Heaven. God bless all of us. Sara Henry

I liked and respected Zeb for his personal integrity and technical capabilities displayed during the period we worked together for ITT - Federal Services Corporation, Vandenberg AFB, CA.
