Robert (Bob) Dwight Smith

Nipomo, California - Robert (Bob) Dwight Smith, an architect and city planner who worked for 40 years with RTKL Associates first in Baltimore, Maryland and then in Los Angeles, died at 81 years of age on February 6, 2025. He was born to Dwight David Smith and Grace Latimer Smith in Columbia, Missouri, and moved with his family to University Park Maryland in 1957, where he graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. He went on to enroll in the School of Architecture at Case Western Reserve where he met his first wife Joan Salim. He graduated with honors, receiving a Bachelors of Architecture and in 1969 he was awarded a Master of City Planning from the University of Michigan. In 2010 Bob retired from RTKL as Vice President and Director of Planning and Urban Design. His career had taken him across the world as he developed master plans for cities, public spaces and resort communities.

Bob and his second wife Sue Smith retired together to Nipomo, California where Bob had time to perfect his golf game and enjoyed getting together with many friends. His wife predeceased in death. Bob is survived by two daughters, Vanessa Smith and Norah Smith, both of Portland Oregon, and a stepdaughter Jennifer Fojtik of Ann Arbor Michigan as well as 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
