Carl Salmon Obituary

Carl Rocky Salmon, of San Marcos was born in Fentress on February 21, 1955, to Milton Henry and Estanislada Guardiola Salmon. He was the youngest of nine children. He grew up on a farm in Staples where he made wonderful memories while learning the value of hard work. Rocky attended schools in San Marcos, graduating in 1973.

Rocky worked for Bud Hamilton AC, Brown and Root in La Grange, Doc Seebeck Construction, Pedernales Electric and retired from the United States Post Office in San Marcos after 31 1/2 years. During that time, he also started RDS Services.

Rocky has always been strong willed. A few days after having an appendectomy, he married Darlene Nobles in Boerne on Oct. 6, 1984. They lived in San Marcos, where their son, Travis was born in 1986, followed by a daughter, Megan in 1989.

Rocky was a wonderful husband, dad, Paw Paw, son, brother, and friend. As a son, Rocky was always checking on his mom and dad. After working all day, he would often take over driving the tractor because he worried that it was too much for his dad. He continued to watch over his mom after his dad passed away. He visited her every day after work. Family meant everything to him. As a brother, Rocky checked on his sisters, especially after they were widowed. As a father, Rocky was very involved in both Travis and Megan's lives. He attended every sporting/band event that Travis and Megan participated in. He started contributing to a college fund for Travis and Megan which they used to attend college and get their degrees. As a grandfather, he loved Levi and facetimed with him every day. He was super excited to welcome his second grandson, Noah. As a husband, he always provided for Darlene, he always made her laugh with his joking around. He liked to take her shopping because he said, "If she looks good, I look good." Rocky loved to dance, and she was his dance partner. As a pet owner, Rocky completely spoiled and loved Tyson, his little Chihuahua. He also loved his grand pups Heidi, Luna, Brody, and Blue.

Rocky was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Tanis Salmon, his sister, Katherine Contreras and his brother, Col. Jack Salmon. He is survived by his wife Darlene, son Travis, daughter and son-in-law Megan and Jordan Norfleet, his grandsons Levi and Noah, his sisters Frances Ybarra, Louise Ramirez, Josephine Robinson, Margaret Groves (William), and his brothers Milton Salmon, Jr. (Janis) and Richard Salmon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many, many cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Lockhart Baptist Church at 315 West Prairie Lea St. Lockhart, TX 78644 on March 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. In his honor, we request casual wear with bright colors.

**In lieu of flowers, Rocky requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He did not want any child to endure a battle with cancer like he did for 19 years.

I was so sad to hear of Rocky's passing. He was an uncommonly kind and gentle man! I know he is already missed dearly. Although I didn't know him as well as my siblings Daniel and Juanita did, I feel lucky to have had him in my life. He was the sort of person whose presence was deeply calming. When I was in a car accident, he ran to help me without realizing who I was at first. Once he realized who I was, he cared for me as if I was his own daughter. Although knowing him, I'm sure he would have done this for anyone. Seeing how upset and emotional I was, he stepped in and took care of everything, getting the other driver's insurance information and calling a tow truck...Now that I think about it I don't think he ever sent me that bill either. But honestly, that generosity doesn´t surprise me too much either. Wishing your family a tender time of remembrance and celebration of his life. My love and deepest condolences - Kate Jurek

I will never forget the time Rocky and Darlene took me out to eat and then to a bar dancing. As I was dancing, I got sick and threw up on the guy´s shoes that I was dancing with. They thought I had just had to much to drink but later that night, after getting me home, Rocky had to take Darlene to the ER. Apparently, we both had food poisoning. Poor Rocky having to deal with both of us! What a night! Lol

I remember Rocky and Darlene coming to my house with a truck load of wood before a cold front hot to make sure I didn´t freeze!

Rocky was a fun loving guy, great to work with . We had a lot of good memories with him at the Post Office. Sending hugs and prayers to his family as they go through this time of sadness, but also rejoicing because we will all be together soon with our Lord Jesus.

I'm very sorry to hear about Rocky. We grew up together in the Staples area. Rocky was always a lot of fun and very upbeat. He will be greatly missed. The Salmon family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
