Mark Lambdin Obituary

Mark Lambdin's celebration of life will be at 11 am July 15, Monday, at St Mark's Episcopal Church. If attending, please wear tropical attire.

Mark was born in Cutbank, Montana, on Oct. 15, 1950, and died on July 5, 2024, after living in San Marcos for almost 40 years. He is preceded in death by his mother Helen, father Thomas, brother Terry, and nephew Tyson Ives. He is survived by his wife Vickye, daughter & son in law Rebecca & Aaron Hudson, granddaughters Camyle & Ivy Hudson, sisters Mary Ives and Jeanette Hunt and brother and sister-in-law John and Karen Lambdin and six nieces and 12 nephews.

Mark spent his childhood in Midland, Texas, graduating from Midland High in 1969, where he lettered every year in swimming & was team captain his senior year. He was a lifelong swimmer & swam in the San Marcos River, the oceans & Gulf, and for 30-plus years at Country Estates. He loved the pool and took delight in watching Rebecca teach swimming lessons as he had once taught her there.

Mark graduated from Texas Tech Lubbock, TX, in 1976 with a BFA in fine arts, majoring in painting and photography; he was a proud Red Raider. Since Mark worked his way through Tech, he had many different jobs, but his favorite was running a bar at Little Italy's, where he gathered friends, much like in the TV show "Cheers."

Mark moved to San Marcos in 1978, where he quickly became involved in the Art League, the River Clean Ups, Fly Fishing Club, Mad Hatter Parties, Chilympiad, St Mark's Episcopal Church, San Marcos Suns, and Rogelio Sunday breakfast club; he was a camping enthusiast. He worked at many elections and was a Voter Tabulation Supervisor for Hays County for several years. He attended Southwest Texas State for teacher certification, where he also ran a photo lab as a TA.

Mark was an inspiring teacher who was loved and admired by students and faculty. He taught art at Fulmore Junior High for over 30 years.

He was passionate about art in every form of media. That passion and love of the beach channeled his talent into sand castle building. He was a founding member of the San Marcos Suns. He won numerous awards, but he was most proud of winning Tx State Championships in 1996 and 2003.

Wherever Mark went, he made many friends. He was an easy person to talk to. Whether it was listening to music at Cheatam St., traveling to 20-plus countries, or the Delbert McClinton Sandy Beach Cruises, Mark was enjoying his life. He told his daughter shortly before his death that he had done everything on his bucket list.

Mark loved everything about art, from teaching it, to making it, to seeing it, to collecting it, and to inspiring others to create. As much as he loved his family and friends he often felt they were a distraction from his purpose in life which was to make art. If you wish to honor or recognize Mark, please consider a donation to the San Marcos Art League PO 260 San Marcos Tx 78667.
