Adelaide Bleecker Obituary

Adelaide King Bleecker
1928 - 2015
Santa Cruz
Adelaide Bleecker passed away January 6 at the age of 86 in Santa Cruz, California.
Born Adelaide Edith King in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of Maxon and Esther King. She grew up in East Liverpool, Ohio, and after graduating from East Liverpool High School attended the Pennsylvania College for Women in Pittsburgh for a year. Not content to stay close to home, she went west and finished her college education at Stanford University.
At Stanford, she met her first husband, Donald Glass, a fellow classmate, who graduated from Stanford Law School. They lived in Palo Alto, California for several years along with their three children. In 1968, she married Bruce Bleecker, who was a vice president of Watkins-Johnson Company with four children of his own. She and Bruce raised their combined family in Santa Cruz, California.
Before having children she worked at the Emporium department store in San Francisco, and later worked for the Palo Alto school district. In Santa Cruz she was an avid bridge player and an active member of the Daisy Auxiliary. For the last twenty years she especially cherished the thought-provoking discussions and friendship with her bible study group.
But the central focus of her life was always her family and many friends. During the last few years when she was no longer able to travel, her greatest pleasure were those times when she was surrounded by all her children and grandchildren, and just a few weeks before her death she was able to enjoy a Thanksgiving celebration with all of them.
She is survived by her husband Bruce, her brother Harry F. King of Buffalo, New York, her seven children and step-children, Michael Glass, Cynthia (Glass) Round, Stephen Glass, David Bleecker, Janet Bleecker, Robyn (Bleecker) Shiely, and Mark Bleecker, and many grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17 at Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz, California, with a reception to follow nearby. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pacific Coast Manor Auxiliary, 1935 Wharf Road, Capitola, CA, 95010.
