Singer-songwriter Alice Ebony Browne-Cunningham, 32, died on January 27th at her mother's home in Portland, Oregon. She died from metastatic breast cancer. Ebony was born on September 25, 1974 in Watsonville, California. She attended elementary and high school in Chico, California. She worked for several years as a musician and as a nanny in San Francisco, and moved to Berlin, Germany in 1995. She recently embarked on a new career as an international tour director. Her avocation was indoor gardening.
Ebony is survived by her mother Eunice Cunningham, grandmother Frances W. Cunningham of Junction City formerly of Santa Cruz, California, Eunice's partner Margaret Hafey and Margaret's children-Raymond Gerrans, Elizabeth McArron and Margaret Gerrans of Portland, and Matthew Gerrans of Seattle. Ebony is also survived by aunts and uncles Bob and Bernie Cunningham of Mililani, Hawaii, John and Linda Cunningham of Junction City, and Julie Cunningham and Larry Newman of Quincy, California; and close friends Sarah Ranuio, Tiffany Stoneman, and Ross Ferrier of Portland, and Tom Copple of Santa Cruz.
In Germany, Ebony leaves her ex-husband Nino Ruggieri of Berlin, his mother Charlotte Klaue of Braunschweig, her sisters-in-law, Celia Klaue and Deborah Ruggieri of Berlin, and many good friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Leonard Brown of Connecticut.
Ebony was beautiful and regal. She had an ability to connect with people, a gift for music, and was known for speaking her mind. Her last days were aided greatly by the attentive staff at Legacy Hospice. She will be missed dearly. Music and a celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, February 3nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Ranuio home at 3931 SE Main St, Portland. One star lit night by the pool side near Reading, Ca. Ebony joined me in singing songs and playing guitars. She had a special voice and I will always remember this momement. I entertained but she truly sang. I will miss you Ebony but your memory and songs live on. Bill

Although I never had the honor of meeting Ebony, my heart is heavy to hear of her death. What a daring, brave and loving young woman she was. She will be missed by many indeed.
