I am Allen's first cousin from NYC. When I lived out in SF in the early 90s Allen was there to help me settle in. He loved living in Carmel! I am sorry that I didn't keep in touch with him (or his brother Lewis) when I moved back to NYC. Allen was the best!

I met Allen through my very good friend Elaine who also helped start the Shopper with Allen. This picture of him made me smile. I remember Allen as always very patient and kind, with a great sense of humor. I am sad to read of his passing-(it had been many years since I saw him), but I have very fond and great memories of him. I am sure he and Elaine are sharing a few laughs together.

I met Allen in 1973. My office was across from his in the Old Profession Building on West Franklin Street in Monterey. He had just started the Shopper and I, as a notary public at the time, and certified his circulation. Good all-around guy with a mind of his own but a good mind!

I had immediate mixed emotions seeing the photo of Mr. Kaplan and then reading his obituary. That great photo of him made me smile and yet I'm also saddened by the knowledge that he is gone. My interaction with him involved my late mother, Betsy, who throughout her life had been such a strong and fiercely independent woman. Mom, a most capable Air Force Officer's wife, was suddenly widowed in her mid-50's and then in her sixties she developed Macular Degeneration. What a terrible toll that all took on her confidence and capabilities. Enter Mr. Allen Kaplan with whom she developed a trusting relationship and who for her, took care of her estate directives. My mother would fret over things and at times, because of her diminished eyesight, would mix up the pages of her Trust. Mom would anxiously make her way downtown to his office and Mr. Kaplan's very kind, compassionate staff would straighten things out for her. And then she would relax. I dare not think how many times that happened but I can only say for certain that I will forever remain grateful to Mr. Allen Kaplan, for being so gracious and patient with my mother. In addition I will add that after my mother's terrible diagnosis and death just six weeks later, Mr. Kaplan extended the same, very caring and caring treatment to me when I then found myself having to settle my mother's affairs. We are not all so fortunate to have someone like him in our lives when we find ourselves in such need. I extend my sympathy to his family and friends.
