Anthony John Filice passed away unexpectedly on June 29, 2016. He was 37. Anthony was born in Santa Cruz on April 7, 1979, the son of John G. Filice and Jan Filice. Anthony grew up in Santa Cruz where he attended Holy Cross Elementary, Monte Vista Christian and Santa Cruz High School. Anthony has worked the last fifteen years in the logging industry as a tree faller, a job he enjoyed and took great pride in doing.
Anthony loved his family and was a devoted father to his four children. He loved the outdoors and spending time at the family ranch where he enjoyed creating things from objects he found. Anthony was creative and had many talents. He enjoyed making things from old horseshoes and even restored an old jeep and bulldozer. During the Lockheed fire, he worked along side the firefighters putting in a fire break that saved many acres of land. He later received an official thank you for his efforts.
We will remember Anthony as someone who loved being and working on the family property. He seemed most at peace when he was working the land. A little bit of Anthony will always resonate through the forests of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Filice; his children, Bailey Filice, Raini Filice, Cheyanne Filice and Raylan Filice and his parents, John Filice and Jan Filice; He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
A celebration of Anthony's life will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on July 25, 2016 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow. To express you condolences or share a memory with Anthony's family, please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com.

Anthony and I were good friends when we were younger and I still have a lot of memories of good times. I was with him when he bought his first car and can still remember how enthusiastically happy he was(I think he was actually singing, while I was praying we'd actually make it to his house before breaking down). I'm sad to hear he passed and hope his family the best during this difficult time.

I'm thoughts and prayers go out to the Filice family. I'm still in disbelief. Anthony we had our good times and we had our bad times over the years of our 15+ year friendship, but you will always be in my heart, memories and in my prayers. I think the best memory I have of us together would be last summer when you came to visit me in Oregon and we went to dinner and then out to my favorite dive bar. the quote from that night was " could you imagine if we were in Santa Cruz? We wouldn't be able to enjoy dinner with out people staring and whispering. LOL" I'm sure going to miss you buddy. Love you , RIP AF

It was a pleasure to watch and hear the many adventures and good deeds you were part of from your first years at Holy Cross to your adorable children. You were a bright light and help to your mom which I adored and thank you for. Your assistance to the community was thoughtful, heroic and largely unstated by you, as that is one of the many things I admired of you. A steadfast friend always there for others, a beloved son and a strong loving father you will be so missed.
