Arthur A. Deans age 48 passed away peacefully on July 3, 2011.

Beloved son of late Antointte and Arthur Deans Sr. Survived by former wife Jackie Cooksey-Deans and their son Nicholas Deans, wife Renea Deans and their sons Turner and Christian Deans. Brother of Lisa Deans-Ramirez and Leslie Deans-Krupar. Uncle to Jessica and Rachelle Espinoza, Alexis Ramirez, Adrian and Danika Whitehall.

Arthur was known to many as an exceptional surfer. This was one of his greatest loves, second to his love of his sons. He was known for his caring and outgoing personality. Arthur made it a point to befriend everyone who crossed his path.

We want to especially thank Arthur's former mother in law Mary Bahr and daughter Jackie for graciously caring for and loving Arthur. You opened up your home and hearts in the last weeks of his life. We are eternally grateful for such kindness. Our thanks and gratitude to the Hospice of Santa Cruz for a job well done. To Arthur's many friends who helped our family with his care, we give thanks. Arthur will forever be riding that eternal wave in heaven!

In honor of Arthur, there will be a memorial at Steamer's lane Sunday August 21, 2011 followed by a paddle-out at Cowell's beach [Time to be anounced at a later date] "SEMPER FIDELIS" ^j^

Arthur,
I thought of a photo today, just out of the blue. I remember the surfer in the caption had your name. I typed your name into my computer, to see the photo again, and to be stoked by the beautiful shot and your timeless style. Thanks for the stoke.

It was one year and 6 months ago I ran into Arthur at Longs on 41st.
He was his usual happy enthusiastic self. I hadn't seen him in years. I asked how & what he had been doing over the years.
He replied, well right now I'm fighting for my life!" To my surprise he had just been diagnosed and was informed that he only had a year or so to live. "My god... what does a person say to that?" I gave him a hug and he smiled and said, "Reality sucks, but hey thats life!" I could hardly believe what he had just told me. He asked me to do him a favor......he said, when I die will you bring me flowers to my funeral? I could hardly reply as I was still in shock, but told him of course I would. Unfortunately I learned of his passing too late. So this is for you Arthur, I'm sending you this candle....May you Rest in Peace you happy soul.

Dearest Arthur, aka Dino, Jr and Arti boy-I can't shake the sadness I feel since you have been gone. I miss your phone calls and hearing your voice. We had a lot of good talks whether happy or sad. I pray your sons, though very young, remember how much you loved them and what a good father you were. I love you and miss you everyday...Lisa

Arthur Deans Is a real Surfer and always was. He could get tubed and come out on a mushy day at the Lane are a great day at the harbor. Back in the day, he would let you know if you were not up and would back it up. I always have had respect for him in the water, and as a hard working Carpenter as well.

Arthur, cousin and friend, I really miss you and my heart is heavy but these last couple of months have been the saddest for all of us. I know that when you finally let go and took that perfect wave into that most amazing place any of us could ever imagine you did so knowing you would be with God and your family and friends who have gone before you. I also know how hard it was for you to let go and leave your family here, you were so very determined as you always have been. Your spirit lives on little buddy. See you again someday.

Arthur, Arthur, Arthur….all the stories I have of us. ‘Art’ was a dear friend, onetime ‘best friend’ for many of our adolescent years…the formidable years. Too many surf adventures to recall, but the best ones are waking up early at his Stockton Ave home and just going down the street. I was truly amazed, at Arts ability to recollect some of these stories. For a guy who burned his life candle brighter than most and even with his post brain surgery, Art was able to recall stories I couldn’t even remember. The guy was smarter than he got credit for, loved in a way that was felt by all, and surfed some great waves in his life. He lived a hard life, but he also lived a full life, and it is good knowing that he is surfing in the heavens right now…complete with that big smile of his looking down on all of us. God Bless bud and looking forward to when we meet again.

Summer of 2010 I was visiting Santa Cruz from here back East. We both froze and did that classic "hey, wait I know you look" You had me sit and listen as you read from the book you wrote for your daughter. There we were in front of Logo's on a bench under the blazing sun as you went on about how much you love your little girl. Your fingers looked so worn and tired. I felt so sad but I don't anymore because now... you're Free :)
