January 12, 2010, longtime Santa Cruz resident Charles F. Query passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at age 73.
Born 1936 in Salem, Oregon to Floyd and Ruth Query, Chuck spent his childhood in Salem. He graduated from Oregon State University; served six years in the Army and eventually settled in Palo Alto, where he met and married his wife Carol, to whom he was married for 45 years. After 30 years as a Manufacturing Engineer with IBM, Chuck retired and worked for Seagate. Once retired from Seagate, Chuck pursued his hobbies such as woodworking, long adventuresome walks and researching Oregon waterways and their ferries. He eventually developed his ferry research into a published book, A History of Oregon Ferries. Some of his community projects include the restoration woodwork in The Rogers House, Watsonville, Ca., as well as various woodworking projects for The Cabrillo Music Festival and Friends of Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Chuck was a ready hand to any who needed him and his gracious nature will be missed. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Rachel and Julie, their husbands Donn and Shaun and a grandson Alex. He is also survived by three siblings.
You are invited to celebrate Chuck's life and work on January 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Cruz Memorial, Oakwood Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz.

When I think back to my sons' childhood days on Winkle Avenue in Santa Cruz Gardens, I always think of Chuck, Carol, Rachel and Julie. The 4th of July parties on their front lawn are memories I will always cherish. Chuck was the life of the party and always ready to extend a welcoming smile to us. My sons always felt that Chuck was their friend, just as much as he was to the adults in the neighborhood. He was a special person, one that we will remember fondly, always. Go in peace, our beloved friend.

To The Query Family,
Although I only knew Chuck brifly many years ago, I remember his strong presence well. Both he and Carol opened up their home to me, the vagabond I was, and always made me feel welcome. I will always remember him, and of course Carol as well.
I keep the entire extended Query family in my prayers each day. Carry on his legacy! God Bless. Deanna Corcoran Kile
