Craig Shelton Obituary

Craig Shelton
August 29, 1949-Nov. 17, 2020
North Carolina
It is with great sorrow we announce that Craig passed away, in North Carolina, from complications of Covid-19. Born in Old Dominican Hospital, Craig lived in Santa Cruz County until moving to North Carolina in 2016. He was drafted into the army in 1970 and served most of his duty at Fort Ord. Craig was a Fire Engineer for San Jose City for 25 years. He was a well-respected member of the fire department and spent time outside of work engaged in activities with his firefighter family. A car aficionado, Craig enjoyed racing his Fiat Spider at the Salinas Airport in his early adult years. Each race, ended with a picnic with his wife and kids. Craig maintained an immaculate garage, full of tools to tackle any project around the house, or to help out a friend or family member in need of some handiwork. In his spare time, he loved to ride mountain and dirt bikes with fellow firefighters and friends. One of his favorite rides was in Wilder Ranch where he would tear through the hills and end up at the sea. Craig also loved spending time in the ocean; he initiated an annual abalone dive to Van Damme with his family and firefighter families, creating delicious, briny dishes to share, while building a great sense of community. Craig always emerged with the largest abalone! He and his wife loved traveling throughout the US in their RV; they traveled twice to Alaska over two different summers. His sense of adventure opened up many experiences for his family.
Craig is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Peg of Hillsborough, NC; son, Troy (Aki) Shelton of San Mateo, CA; daughter Mindy Shelton of Hillsborough, NC; and three dearly loved grandchildren, Jackson, Kai and Clara. He also leaves behind his mother Marion Shelton and brother Dan Shelton. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Shelton and grandson Samuel Ranney.
A green burial was held in North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that charitable donations be made to: Alzheimer's Association Eastern N.C. Chapter 5171 Glenwood Ave. Suite 101 Raleigh, NC 27612

Hi Peg
I recently learned of Craig´s passing and wanted to reach out with my condolences. I very much enjoyed our outings with you guys and seeing Craig around station 18. Was envious of his gills that he obviously had grown from so much time in the sea and had fun working together with you guys on your remodel.
I miss all of our fire department extended family.
Hope you are doing well
Love Allen
