Dolores McCain Obituary

Dolores A. Wagner McCain passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, after a brief illness. She was 82. Mrs. McCain's life was characterized by kindness, compassion and faith.

Born in Watsonville in 1925 to John and Louisa Wagner, Mrs. McCain was the 8th of 9 children. Watsonville streets Dolores and Wagner Avenue were named for her and her family. Mrs. McCain attended Moreland Notre Dame Academy and graduated as student body president in 1943. After graduating from San Jose State University with a degree in Interior Design, Mrs. Mc Cain worked as an intern at Gumps in San Francisco.

In 1949, she married John McCain, her beloved husband of 58 years, and began raising a family of one daughter and 3 sons. The family returned to her hometown of Watsonville in 1958. Mrs. McCain taught 3rd grade at Radcliff School for the next 10 years and many former students remember her kindness and love of teaching.

In 1969 Mr. and Mrs. McCain moved to South Lake Tahoe to pursue careers in real estate and property management. By 1983 they moved back to Watsonville to become partners in Quail Mt. Herbs. Mrs. McCain was an integral part of Quail Mt. She was an enthusiastic cheerleader who performed every function of the business from planting to office work over the next 20 years.

Mrs. McCain was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola. She loved to make baby blankets for Watsonville Hospital. Mrs. McCain was an accomplished artist and seamstress, and she also loved gardening.

Mrs. McCain is survived by her dearly-loved husband, John McCain, four children Carol Kirk Schmidt of Watsonville,

Richard Michelle McCain and Timothy Kelli McCain all of Aromas, and Ronald Linda McCain of Gardnerville, Nevada.

She also leaves grandchildren Jason, Jeffrey and Jessica Schmidt; Sean and Brianna McCain; Kenny and Benjamin McCain; her siblings, George Wagner of Pebble Beach, Ursula Ramos of San Jose, Eugene Wagner of Valley Ford and Jack Wagner of Hollister, and a sister-in-law Mary Turley of Santa Cruz. She is preceded in death by sisters, Madeline Ramos, Sr. Marie Veronica, and brothers, Leo and Jim Wagner.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 8, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick's Church. Private inurnment will be at Valley Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Mehl's Colonial Chapel.

Donations are preferred to Pajaro Valley Women's Shelter 115 Brennan St, Watsonville, 95076 or your favorite charity.
