Resident of Felton
Dorothy Mae Snavely passed away surrounded by family after briefly battling Alzheimer's Dementia, on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the age of 94, in Felton, CA. She was born to Elmer Ellsworth Burket and Laura Bell (Caughenour) Burket on September 24, 1922, in Inglewood, CA. Dorothy also lived in various cities across Southern California but moved to Northern California in 1968. She was a medical assistant for 18 years in Southern California and retired as a court clerk for Santa Cruz County.
Some of Dorothy's favorite pastimes included crossword puzzles, reading, crocheting and spending time with her family. However, Dorothy's greatest passion was serving the Lord, she attended Felton Bible Church, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She held many other church leadership roles such as Deaconess, Youth Group Leader, Prayer Chain Coordinator, and was involved with Women's Ministries.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Gaylord Evan Snavely Sr., parents, Elmer and Laura Burket, brothers, Edward, Chester, James, Charles, Robert, Ray, and William, sisters, Annabelle Hiza and Wava Sullivan. She is survived by her daughters, Winona Ayers, Amanda (David) Knox, sons, Gaylord (Leslie) Snavely III, Douglas (Janine) Snavely, Samuel (Sheila) Snavely, brother, Donald (Virginia) Burket, sister, Rosemary (James) Westrup, 38 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private Graveside Service was held for family at Felton District Cemetery earlier this month. All are welcome to a Memorial Service on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10 am, at Felton Bible Church, 5999 Graham Hill Road, Felton, CA 95018, at the corner of Graham Hill Rd and Zayante Road.

I was a legal clerk when I first started working at the County Clerk's Office, and Dorothy was my supervisor and trainer. She was very knowledgeable and patient. We worked hard, but she made it an enjoyable and fun place to be.
She was very kind with the customers and was often a resource of legal knowledge for fellow staff and legal secretaries who came to the office.
She definitely had a very positive impact on my life. I will always remember her wealth of knowledge, patience and humor.
