Services will be held Thursday for Dorothy L. Wyllie who passed away September 14, 2007 at her home in Ben Lomond. She was 91.
Born in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of James and Grace Gluyas Ryan, she grew up in Vallejo and Oakland. She was a graduate of Castlemont High School in Oakland. As a young woman she worked as a grocery clerk at Mac Marr Markets which later became Safeway. There she met her husband-to-be Francis "Bud" Wyllie in 1937. The couple married one year later and lived in Oakland and San Leandro before moving to Ben Lomond in 1965.
She was a very artistic person who enjoyed watercolor and oil painting as well as china painting, which she sold at an annual Christmas Boutique. She also was a talented poet and seamstress. She entered her poetry and sewing in county fair competitions and was awarded numerous ribbons including Best in Show for a bridal gown entry. She was a devout member of St John's Catholic Church, St Vincent de Paul Society and an avid Oakland A's fan.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Francis "Bud" Wyllie of Ben Lomond; son, Frank Wyllie of Clovis; four daughters, Virginia Niskanen of Saratoga, Patricia Polete of San Leandro, Ellen Rotert of Aptos and Marianne Wyllie-Gilbert of Santa Cruz. She is also survived by six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church, Highway Nine and Russell Ave in Felton, Thursday September 20, 2007 at 11:00 am. The holy Rosary will be recited at the church on Thursday beginning at 10:00 am with viewing hours from 9:00 am. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward on Friday at 11:00 am.
