Eva Esty Obituary

Eva (Crouse) Esty
Oct. 4, 1927 - Feb. 3, 2014
Resident of Reno, NV
Born on October 4, 1927, in Toledo, OR to Mahala and James Crouse.
Eva (Eve) Madelle Crouse Esty passed away on February 3rd, 2014, with her daughter Susan, at her side. When Eve was young girl her family moved to Bakersfield, CA, where her father worked in a dairy. When she was 14 years old, the family moved to Santa Cruz, CA, where she attended Santa Cruz High School. She met her future Husband, Harold (Hal) Seward Esty, Jr., at a dance in Capitola. He was in the Navy at the time and was home on leave. WWII had ended. It must have been love at first sight, as 10 days later, on December 12, 1945, they drove to Reno, NV in a snowstorm, and were married. They moved to New London, CT, where Hal was stationed and attending Submarine school.
Their first daughter, Susan, was born there. Shortly after, they moved to Mare Island, CA., where Hal was stationed. They continued to live in the East Bay, where their next 4 children were born, and returned to Santa Cruz when the youngest was an infant.
Eve held many jobs, including waitress at the Ideal Restaurant on the wharf, and as caretaker for the elderly for several years. She retired from United Coin in Reno, Nevada, shortly before passing. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed a good laugh. Sharp witted, she could hold her own in any conversation. She always loved listening to stories of her grandchildren's antics. She relished in reminiscing about the good times.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Carol Crouse, Of Reno Nevada, her five living children, Susan Higley (Mel), Sonnie Petersen (Wayne), Harold S. Esty III (Linda), Steve Esty (Kathe), and Sharon Hudson (Ben), her 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother-in law, Le Baron Esty, many loving nieces and nephews, extended family, including Wendy Rose Baldwin, and numerous friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Harold S. Esty Jr., and infant son, Stanley David Esty. The family wishes to thank Life Care Center in Reno, NV, for the wonderful care she received in her final days.
Per her request, no formal services are scheduled.
