Hazel Elizabeth Schoonover Hammond Andrews Caselli, born on June 27, 1912 to Roy and Sophie Schoonover in Creede, CO passed away on March 19, 2010 at her home in Capitola, CA.
Hazel moved with her family to Santa Cruz in 1931 at the age of 18. Her first jobs included family care at Wilder Ranch and teaching children to ride horses at Pasatiempo Riding Stables, alongside her father and brother. Riding beside her father who was Grand Marshall in a Santa Cruz County parade was a highlight of her early years.
Hazel volunteered for many community events and organizations, including Grey Bears, ICF, Eagles Lodge, and Rebekah's Lodge where she had the honor of serving as Noble Grand. She was active in the Catholic Church, St. Joseph's of Capitola and Holy Cross of Santa Cruz, where she served on the altar society.
During their 38 year marriage, Hazel and Peter Caselli shared a love of family gatherings, gardening, dancing together, and traveling throughout the United States. Their most treasured moments were spent with family, watching their grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. Her fun-loving, warm, and gentle nature filled her life with many friends and a loving family. She was especially giving to children, both in her home and the world around her. Nature, music, and singing brought her great joy.
Hazel is survived by two daughters, Janice Elizabeth Hammond Ebert Quivey of Portland, OR, and Sue Andrews Skinner Brannan husband Dave of Spokane, WA; one son, John Hammond; grandchildren, Jeff Ebert, Scott Skinner, both of Half Moon Bay, and Dave Ebert of Noblesville, IN; four beloved great grandchildren; her nephew, Mark Schoonover wife Josie of Felton; her cousin Ella Mae Wickliffe of Aptos; and her sister-in-law Susie Hammond of Antioch.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to caregiver Dolores Austria, Suzie Crawford and WomenCare of Capitola, and Dr. Robert Chen of Capitola.

Our deepest sympathy to Jan and her family for the loss of Jan's mother. Jan has been a friend of my husband and myself since our years in New Jersey and for many years thereafter. We know her sons through our years together in New Jersey. Jan was a wonderful daughter to her mother and was gifted with the support of her sons and their families in the care and love of their grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by all who loved her. Barbara & Jack Morgan

Hazel was a wonderful friend. The Rebekah lodge was privileged to have Hazel as a member. We had a lot of fun during the past 10 years and she was fun to be around. She loved her family, and they were very good to her, making her feel very special.
