Jack Hinds Obituary

Jack Edward Hinds
24 February 1933 - 28 December 2021
Resident of Scotts Valley
Jack Edward Hinds, 88, passed away quietly at home on 28 December 2021, days after his family gathered with him for the Christmas holiday. Jack was born in Cleveland, Ohio during the great depression to Milton and Margaret Hinds; the family moved to Miami, Florida 2 years later where he grew up.
Jack and his wife of 67 years, Ruth Anne, started dating when they were both in junior high school and married in 1954, as soon as Ruth graduated from college. Jack graduated from the University of Florida in 1956 as a Civil Engineer, and they moved and traveled as he worked on the Morgan Falls Dam in Florida, the St. Lawrence Seaway connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes, the King Paul Dam in Kremasta, Greece, the Bullards Bar Dam in California, and others.
In 1968 Jack and Ruth picked the seaside town of Santa Cruz to move to, making a home, raising their family and creating community through church, school, work, and the stewardship of lives well lived.
Jack and Ruth owned a local restaurant for a few years, then Jack managed a water company in San Martin and the Scotts Valley Water District through the 1970s. He was business administrator, teacher and minister at Twin Lakes Church for 15 years, joining Gateway Church as a minister and teacher in 1995 until his retirement in 2011.
Jack had a fast smile, a quick wit and beautiful baby blue eyes. He was a lifelong student, a faithful husband, teacher, minister and counselor, a father with high expectations, a patient and present grandparent, a steady friend and advisor whose clear pragmatic council was sought out and respected by many.
Jack's legacy is reflected in family and friends; he is survived by Ruth, his first love and wife, their children and families, Sally Lowery, Drew and Karen Hinds, Dwight Hinds, Terri and David Werdmuller, 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many other loved ones. A son, Douglas died in 2013.
A celebration of life for Jack will be held on Saturday 5 February 2022 at 11am at Gateway Church in Scotts Valley, CA with a reception afterwards.

I loved Jack.. a tireless worker for Christ Kingdom. Jack
was constantly working in the community, always putting others before himself. He was a special man who loved his family and was a loving teacher. It was evident in the work that he did in our community and most of all in the churches, he was affiliated with in Santa Cruz County. As he entered God`s kingdom, he heard those words well done, my faithful servant.

I have known Jack Hinds since his daughter, Sally married my brother Kevin. No matter what event was taking place in the lives of his children, he was always in attendance. He said the prayer, made the offering before every meal. He always, always would ask me, "Are you taking care of your wife, make sure you take care of your wife". And he would look you directly in your eyes until you gave him an honest answer. I never ever saw him with an uncomfortable face; he always exuded a quite confidence about him. He loved his wife Ruth deeply, that I am sure of. And she was always by his side at every event I attended. They are soul mates I am sure. Jack HInds will be missed by every one who knew him, not just as a Father to his family, but to all of us, including myself, who came under his sphere of influence. To him I say as he passes me by, "There goes a Man among men, a giant of a man who knows no equal. His path to Heaven has been laid by his character. His place in Heaven is securely in place. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!"
