Just saw something on The History Channel and Joe was in it about the 100th. I looked him up and found he had passed 7 years ago. By why I was looking him up was to thank him for his service and all he had done in WWII. I am the son of a B-17 Bomber Pilot also from the 8th AF. My late father was in the 96th BG/339 Sq from the Fall of 1943 to the Spring of 1944. I'm sure they flew on some of the same missions.

Like my father who served in the Pacific these men were the bravest and greatest generation that the world will ever know. I have the rifle that my father captured in the Pacific and when ever I look at it I can only think of what these men did for all of our freedom. God bless you all..

I am watching WWII HD. Mr. Armani was a courageous man. His interview in WWII HD was so very real and genuine. A truly great American Hero. My condolences to your family, I'm sure he is truly missed. What a true and genuine life he led. May God Bless All of your family.

God raises up great men and women in His perfect timing. Joe was an instrument of the Lord not only in the war, but in his own family which is evident through his children. Sad to hear of his passing, strangely was watching the Air War only just yesterday. I live in East Anglia, and a short drive from where Joe was based, watching and hearing his experiences were simply incredible. It appears he had a long and fruitful life, and by his service to not only his country but mine, he bought freedom , at a damn cost, so that my country can enjoy its freedoms too. Thankyou to Joe and all who flew from my country and helped beat Nazi tyranny.

I owe my very existence to Joe and all those of his generation. My parents were children in England during the war. If Joe and all those others hadn't given so much, the Axis would have won and I would never been born. After we emigrated to the U.S. I served in the USAF as an intelligence officer. Again I thank Joe and his generation for everything they did. Thanks Joe! And God bless.

I did not know joe, but i got to know who he was through the history channel. So grateful for what he and his brothers did, while my own dad was a baby. Wish i could tell a guy like this, that i, a member of his grandkids generation, climbed aboard a b17 for a flight, just so i could attempt to see, smell, and feel what they went through in some small way. Came away from that with even more reverence. Rest in peace joe. Thank you

I am saddened at the lost of an American hero. I've watched 'WW2 IN HD: THE AIR WAR', and I admire Joe Armanini and all of the WW2 Veterans who fought so bravely and courageously. Armanini was part of the Greatest Generation. I admire the Greatest Generation who gave up their lives to "FREE a Suffering Humanity".
Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. Give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith. They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard.

What a great tribute, to a man the rest of us only knew through WWII in HD ! My impression of you is that if I passed you in the street Joe, I would not have noticed your accomplishments trailing behind you like a wake. WWII vets like you, and my father never felt the need to talk about the incredible bravery, of simply overcoming overwhelming fear, to do the things that leave the rest of us in awe, and secured our freedom ! He was part of the Greatest Generation I read about while growing up, folks who served our Nation in Air Combat, folks who had a large part in my becoming a U.S. Navy flyer and serving 30 years in that role. The series that Joe was interviewed for, which you mentioned, "WWII in HD--The Air War", highlighted the true nature of the dangers embraced by flyers in that conflict, dangers faced by all combat flyers, dangers that are often eclipsed, at least at the outset, by the glory and excitement of flying. Your Dad's story realistically examined both sides, and made clear the great sacrifices your Dad and his comrades willingly made, to enable the dreams of the rest of us who followed, achievable. To the Armanini Family my Deepest Sympathy for your loss. I watched the History Channel program "WW II in HD". Mr. Armanini is truly special to tell his story. My Dad and Uncle were in WW 2. My Dad was in England at Bassingbourn Airfield as a radio operator. It was a B-17 base for the 8th Air Force. Many thanks for Mr. Armanini for his time and energy to tell his story for us who never had the experiences that he had.

Wow, what a truly amazing person your father was! I never meet your father, but watched with awe as he shared his experiences during WWII on History channel. What a great service he and the other members of the Bloody 100th gave to our nation. His retelling of those events was spell binding for me and my family. Dear Armanini Family, I only just learned of your Dad's passing. While I never had the pleasure of meeting your Dad, I felt as thought I knew something of the man after the 2009 History Channel release of WWII in HD. I just wanted to extend my heartfelt appreciation for his service and all others who served in the ETO during that war. I suspect your Dad was a spunky fellow who garnered the love and respect of so many whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.

Sorry for your loss. In viewing The Air War DVD, I can see in him what you describe at the beginning of the obit- a very outgoing guy. My grandfather was a B-17 pilot, passing away in 2011. They are truly the last of breed, and will be missed.

I was saddened to hear of your dad's passing. He and Vicky were good friends of my parents, Tully and Romarita Simoni and worked with them at the Bank of America for many years. I have memories of a party at which Joe and Candy Banducci danced around our living room balancing salad bowls on their heads; your dad was quite a fun-loving guy! The last time I saw him was at my mother's funeral in 2006, but I found many of his Christmas cards with hand-written notes and promises of gnocchi dinners among her saved correspondence. You know what a treasure he was as a father, and he was equally valued as a friend by all who knew him. I hope both of you learned how to make gnocchi; you'll never again have such a skillful teacher.
