I was looking for the Myslin family whom I taught English when they first settled in San Diego. That led to discovering this sad news.

I just wanted to post a message on here for Mr. Myslin, and for his family. He was a huge inspiration in my life at PCS, and I just wanted to say that he is one of the reasons I am studying to become a teacher. There isn't a day that goes by that he dosent cross my mind.

I was on the East Coast when I heard the news about John Myslin and today was the first day I saw the corner where he is memorialized as I took my son to school. I felt a great sadness remembering that this very special person would not be starting the year with us.
My son, Parker, was truly fortunate to have had Mr. Myslin for World History. He was truly inspired by Mr. Myslin and fully aware of his dedication to the subject and his students. We regularly heard stories about the class and the interesting way John Myslin taught the subject.
I am grateful for all that John brought to my son's life, and all the other lives he touched...
My sympathies to his family- as well as my gratitude and admiration; for sharing your son with us, and for having raised such a phenomenal human being.
with warmth and gratitude,

There is more to Mr. Myslin than can be put in words. He was one of the most amazing people I know and I will never forget him. He was my seventh grade history teacher at PCS. I learned more from him than I had learned from all my other history teachers combined. He had a way of working with all his students and making history fun.
We had a new powerpoint in class just about every day. Our class used to joke that US History had the ugliest historical figures and every time we said that he would put their picture on our whiteboard for us to look at every day. We would always complain, but he would do it anyway.
Mr. Myslin loved free food! He would always be telling us stories about him stealing food. Very often he would take food from the teachers lounge and bring it to our class for us to eat. He himself would never eat this food if he brought it to class, but would leave it completely to us.
I can't count how many lunhes I spent in room 12. My Myslin never complained how loud we were or how crazy we were acting. At the beginning of the school year my friends and I were in his classroom during lunch and he was peeling a cucumber. My friend asked if he was going to eat the peel and he said no, so we hung the cucumber peels from the ceiling of the room. He didn't even bother to take them down!
Mr. Myslin spent so much time at school. He said that after his first year at PCS he wouldn't have to because he would have all his lessons done, but I don't think any of us really believed him. He was always in his classroom early in the morning and well after everyone had gone home.
He loved riding his bike and it came as a shock to all of us.
Mr. Myslin was an inspiration to all of us and someone I will never forget.

I worked with John and he was a pure delite to work with. He was one of my substitute teachers for Eureka City Schools, and he had such an amazing attitute towards work; an ethic that was truly appreciated. I could send him out on any assignment in any classroom and school, and he would be requested again and again to come back to the school.
Thanks, John for making my job a little easier when we worked together. You were always professional and always polite to me.
Fondly,

I go to the school that Mr. Myslin taught at, but I'm sorry to say that I never had the chance to really get to know him. Most everything that I have learned about Mr. Myslin I learned after his death. I learned that he loved coin collecting and gaurded the cash box from our school dances with his life. I learned that he could make "German hyper inflation after World War I" interesting to study. I learned that he didn't judge other people and didn't let other people change who he was. I learned that he loved and was dedicated to my school and his students. I wish I had had the chance to really know this amazing person. My sympathies to his friends, family, and students.

August 11, 2007

Mr.Myslin was an amazing teacher and an amazing person. He cared so much about his students, so much that he never seemed to leave school. Once we found a pillow and blanket in his classroom during lunch and he showed us how he set it up under his desk to sleep. He was the most dedicated teacher I 've ever met, he was always there for everyone at any time, literally. The times I laughed the most and learned the most were in his classroom. I've never met anyone like him so smart and full of information and still had room to joke around with us kids. So many people played pranks on him and called him funny names, and he just laughed and did it right back. One time he brought a cookie tin to school that said take one. In the morning he pointed it out to the class and, of course, everyone ran over to it and inside there were no cookies but a note that said Ha Ha Ha I got you! He left everyone with great memories that we will all remember for the rest of our lives. He made everyone feel good about themselves and allowed us to express who we are during class, just as long as we didn't interrupt him while he was talking or showing a powerpoint. Another thing that we all loved about him is that he was always sooo sooo excited about history and what he could use to make his presentations more and more interesting. He was always working on his powerpoint skills. At the beginning of the year he figured out how to put animations on the slide so he picked a picture of a guy holding a mop and the mop was moving back and forth, he was so excited about it that he stayed on that slide for at least five minutes, the mop going back and forth, back and forth. After that on almost every powerpoint he learned something new to do with it and would show it to us multiple times. Pretty soon he had to make a rule of only showing the new stuff twice or the whole class would get spent looking at swirling pictures, guys moving mops, or zooming slides.
Mr.Myslin was truly a wonderful person. He changed P.C.S., he changed my whole seventh grade year by making it less stressful and more fun, he was just a life changing kind of person. I was in his first period class and he gave me a good start to my day! I'll miss him a lot he meant so much to me and my school and I'm sure he meant as much to everyone else that met him.

Mr. Myslin was and still will be so many things to me. I was only in his class for one year and that one year has given me so many great memories. I don't even know where to start.
He had an incredible amount of dedication. He was always working. Either he was writing a quiz or test, doing grading from other classes, or writing power points, he always had something to do. Everyday in his class would be so organized and well planned.
Mr. Myslin wanted the best from his students! He wouldn't bunch us up and grade us like we all had the same mind, he would grade us differently on what he thought demonstrated good work from each student. He was so encouraging even when the material we were learning was hard. Mr Mylin was always trying to find ways to help us learn easier.
I will never forget our JEOPARDY games. Right before each test we would have a Jeopardy game. They were so much fun! He also used the flashcards with people from different time periods. Our class used to laugh about Madam Good Times being in every decade we learned about. :)
He was a blessing to our school and I know everyone will miss his enthusiasm for teaching and for history. I will never forget him or anything I learned from him, not just the curriculum.

I am truly devastated to hear of John's passing. I was lucky enough to attend Upward Bound with John and work with him for a few summers. John had a pure heart, and I never heard him utter a negative word about anyone. He had that delightful balance of humor and serious dedication. I recall occasions when I was acting particularly silly, and he would always give me the stern, serious look to show his disapproval. When he thought I wasn't looking, I could always catch that sly little smile of his. He could always make me laugh, and he obviously had so much to give. I find myself so angry that his gifts have been taken away, but grateful to know that he was able to touch so many.

Myslin: He was, as 10 pages of guests have already said, an AZAZING history teacher. I was able to take his class once and as he drew the history events on the chalkboard, he did not stop when the board stopped. Thats right, he continued drawing on the WALLS all the wy around the classroom. This was the moment we knew it was going to be a good time.

He was passionate in everything he did, especially history riding his bike. I worked with him for 2 summers and as long as I would sit and listen, he would tell me the inner workings of his bike and I would nod and smile and be so inspired by his passion. I was also able to work with Robert as night duty as he shared many of his passions as well. The Myslin family has the strongest and most inspiratioal values I have ever seen.

I saw him 3 weeks before he started his new job. I knew he was happy. So much work he put in for this dream job. I understand he wanted to retire there, and he also once told a student of his that he wanted his ashes spread there. I take comfort in knowing that he was happy, and that I have one more guardian angel watching over myself and the rest of us.

I didn't know John Myslin very well but I was fortunate to be one of the students he taught when he substituded at Eureka High School. He let us call him John instead of Mr. Myslin, and when ever a teacher of mine was gone I hoped John was going to be the subsitute for many reasons. He knew what he was doing, most subs don't. He would teach us our lessons and we wouldn't get behind and have to do more work later. And in every subject he substituted in, I learned something. I was always nervous talking to subs but not John he was always so nice and he really cared about us kids. He would always open the door when the bell rang and stand in front of the door, holding his mug, he would always smile at you when you walked through the door. John was a great man, and a great teacher. I'm very upset over John's passing. The world has just lost a great man and it's really unfortune John won't be able to spread his wisdom into the minds of anymore children. I'm glad I knew John and i give my best wishes to his family.

Rest In Peace John, We are Going To Miss You. You were my favorite substitute and I liked more than most of teachers.

Words cannot express my grief at John's loss. I looked upon John as a "son," along with his brothers Paul and Robert. They "slogged and sweated" along with me in those hot July and August summers, stripping landscape fabric, shoveling aggregate, putting in French Drains, and planting trees and shrubs.

I described John and his brothers as "stellar" individuals, incredible role models for their peers and all who come in contact with them.

John, you will be missed. Your intelligence, your quiet unassuming manner, that gentle smile, your respect and consideration for others, and your love for your family. The world has suffered a great loss. It will be tough to cope without you.

Much love to you and your family.

Dear Paul & Maria, Paul, Robert and Mark.
I am so sorry to hear of the unfortunate loss to your family. I remember John well! He was such a delightful young man. I had such fun talking about the old days, when he was subbing at Alice Birney. Your family is such a special one, to me. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers, now and always.

Mr. Myslin was possibly the most dedicated, memorable, unique person I've ever met. When I heard about his death, I was in shock, and even more so when I heard he was only 25. He had never told us his age. Mr. Myslin was such a character, devoting his entire life to teaching, biking, and coin collecting. His sense of humor was so unique and I had some great times in that class that I will never forget. Mr. Myslin had so much of his life left to live. He had barely begun it, he was saving up for a house and wanted to get married once he had one; it is truly tragic that he died so young. I'm glad he got to see our AP scores before his death, at least he got some satisfaction out of a school year well spent. I'm so sad that my sister and everyone else who was going to have him this year isn't going to get to experience the unforgettable hour a day in his class, and I hope he is resting in peace.

Mr. Myskin always went above and beyond with his teaching, he showed the more effort that i have ever seen in any one ever. He was a man who really had a vision and his act together. He is a great rollmadel for everyone of his students. He always did everything with a smile and he will always have my respect. He was one of the greatest people i have ever met, he tought us all well. "only the good die young"....so ive herd and so it is..............

Mr. Myslin's death was a shock, and was a reality check for me. It was too soon. I don't think it was meant for him to die alone. He was a accomplished man he had 3 languages under his belt and a steady job for his age that I will probably never know. He was a wonderful teacher. He never slacked off and always was cheerful and proper. I wish I had never judged him and put forth a more of an effort in his class, but I guess life is like this and i hope he will rest in peace, nothing but respect to the Myslin's..

Oh, what to say about John...he was an amazing guy. He had such a beautiful heart and I can't remember him ever saying anything bad about anyone. For a short time we were engaged, and although things did not work between us he still and will always hold a very special place in my heart. That summer two years ago was the best I ever had, and I know that I will cherish those memories forever. I loved John very much and he will be greatly missed.

I was fortunate enough to work with John at Upward Bound during the summer of 2005, I kept in touch with him on and off over the past two years and was very excited to learn that he got a teaching job in Santa Cruz. I was working this summer with John's younger brother Mark when we heard the news. Mark was amazingly strong and my love goes out to him and his family. As a future educator I am so sad to see the loss of such an amazing teacher, his students loved him and he changed so many lives, this is such a great loss to us all. I hope that he will be remembered for the amazing person that he was, I know that he is a great inspiration to me.

There is way too much to say about Mr. Myslin. I only had him for one year at PCS, 7th grade history. He was the most amazing teacher anyone could ever have.
He never left his classroom and was constintly working no matter what else he could be doing. He always was thinking of ways to improve his class and how to help his students.
I can't count the endless times I sat in his room at lunch with all my friends or how much food he gave us. We tried to tell him he was stealing when he took free food from the teachers lounge, but he turned around and would say,"I am not stealing, I am helping to keep the other teachers be less fat."
We would always laugh at what he said. In his class we would always make fun of the people we were learning about. At the end of the year he gave away part of his coin collection to his students, because he wanted to inspire us to start collecting.
He told us many stories which always made us want to know more about his life. We could all tell he was the perfect teacher and the best person he could be. I don't think he could have done any better in life, considering all that he did do. He sacrificed so much for each and every one of us. He had so much potential, and I hate to watch it slip by.
All I can say now is that he was a great man and he honestly will be missed by everyone. I am very thankful for the time I did spend with him.

Mr. Myslin was, and still is one of my favorite teachers. I shared many good laughs with him, showed him how to use the stereo in his room (and listened to the rolling stones), had conversations on varying topics (mostly bikes), and mainly, learned from him, in and out of class. I will always hold him in the light and my memory, and am happy to know that he is happily in heaven.

As a person who just knew Mr. Myslin for four days, I can personally attest to the way he effected people. His laid-back attitude and willingness to listen to students made us all feel comfortable around him. Though I did not know John well, only having met him a few times, I am truly saddened by the news of his passing. I taught his younger brother, Mark, we shared many students, and once he spoke Czech with my daughter at a faculty BBQ. He occasionally subbed for my classes those rare times when I could get him, and I thought at the time that the district could have done no better than to keep him on full time. One need only read his students’ words to see why. Our lack of openings was Pacific Collegiate School’s gain. John belies the cliché notion that those who cannot do, teach. John was a gifted man who could have done anything he wanted, yet he chose share his life with students. I can think of no greater gift.

My thoughts go out to Mark and the rest of the Myslin family. John will be missed even by those of us who knew him only briefly.

Remembering Mr myslin is making me want to write some more so here i go.
He was SO funny! He would NEVER tell us his age because "[he] doesn't want us to hook him up with our moms." haha My friend and I paige actually spent about an hour on the computer searching him on google and at UC Davis's website trying to find out his age just so we could rub it in his face that we knew. I actually went into his room one time and Said "Hey Mr. Myslin Im doing this project for math where we're making graphs and we had to choose a subject. I chose all of the history teachers ages. What is yours?" But unfortunately he caught on and didnt tell me. :]
On the first day of school he voiced to us his "steam roller theory." It was where AP World History is like a steam roller. You have to work to stay ahead of it and if you slack off and dont work hard then the steam roller will catch up to you. Once it rolls over you, you cant get ahead any longer. I dont know if this was just a way to scare us but regardless it worked! :] He was such an easy going guy but tried to make himself seem "tough" by talking about working as a guard at the jail. But we didnt fall for it :]
You cannot in your right mind say that he wasnt a dedicated teacher! Spending over 70 hours a WEEK making his power points alone. Not even factoring in all of the grading he did or the countless nights he spent there planning lessons. I'm sure he had all the years lesson plans ready to go.
I now regret those times that i fell asleep in class, texted on my cell phone, or slapped my friend bruce, and now wish i had payed closer attention to him.
Sorry I'll stop rambling now and get to the point. RIP Mr. John Myslin History teacher of the Century!

This guest book entry is really hard for me to write. I'm just sitting here thinking of what to say that will describe Mr. Myslin and what an amazing person he was. If i listed all of his amazing qualities I would be able to go on for days.
Mr Myslin was such an amazing teacher and person. I have never met someone who became so happy while teaching. He was an amazing educator and a very caring, loving person. He did not deserve to die, esp the way he did. PCS will never be the same without him, althogh im sure the next teacher will do an amazing job, i cannot imagine him/her doing as great of a job as Mr. Myslin did. They will have some big shoes to fill.
I will never forget the stories that he told us. From hiding under the car when girls came over, to spening the night at school grading our finals. He was such an amazing person. ALthough those girls might not have thought so. :]
He will live on forever in our hearts and in our memories. Rest in Peace Mr Myslin, and may your spirit live on.

I am so thankful that I had a chance to have Mr. Myslin as a teacher. He was my teacher for my first ap class ever. And even though it was a very stressful class, Mr Myslin somehow made it much less stressful and much more fun. Our incentive to stop talking and finish the lecture quickly was to hear more about Mr. Myslin's life. That was my favorite part of the class. I am so sorry. I will remember him forever. Rest in peace Mr. Myslin.

Mr. Myslin was also my 7th grade History teacher at Pcs. I was so very lucky to have him. He was always telling us about his life, and all the stories he had to tell us about his past jobs. This helped us learn about him not only as our history teacher, but as a person.

Today I was also at the 8th grade registration, I walked into his room and saw no Mr. Myslin sitting at his deck. I then realized that this isn't just a dream it was reality. I sat down at the seat I had all year. I had thought about everything that had gone on in the year. I remembered how he always had that innocent smile on his face. I remembered how he always told us jokes from like the 1800s that he thought were very funny that we did not get. I remembered when he said he loved the school so much that when he died he wanted his ashes spread in his classroom. Room 12. I remembered how he gave away just a few of his rare coins from his colletion that just a couple of students were lucky to get. I was one of those lucky students. Mr. Myslin was always trying to make the class fun with trials that we had to renact or going to room 1 and making a newspaper featuring the events that we were studing. Like many had said, Mr. Myslin made such an impact on the PCS atmosphere, that it really will not be the same without him.

Please, Rest in peace forever Mr. John Myslin.

I am saddened by the loss of John Myslin, the son of our close family friends. John had the poise, dignity, wisdom and sense of humor that should serve as a role model for future generations. In his short time on our planet, by evidence displayed here, he touched many lives, and has now become immortal.
My lasting memory of John is when he helped me trim some trees last summer, and operated the controls of my lift basket. He was a natural at it and had a grin on his face I will never forget!
I hope something good comes of this tragedy and a memorial bike lane or history scholarship in John's name will help future generations learn and live safer as a result of John's sacrifice.
My heartfelt condolences to his parents,Maria & Paul, and to his brothers, Paul, Robert, and Mark.
The world is a lesser place.

Mr.Myslin you are missed so much. It was 8th grade registration today at PCS. To see your past students go into your room 12 and tell stories about you was truly heart breaking. You made history fun for them and they all have such good memories of you and your class. They loved to tease you and had so many stories of them taking pencils and spraying silly string on you. Your students loved that they could have different nicknames for you and how you printed those names up and posted them on your classroom wall for all to see. Then today they noticed you re-did the paper, brand new for this years class. Not to mention how they loved your Power Points and how well you taught them. You were a special person John Myslin and will be missed so much here in Santa Cruz and at PCS. Our daughter was lucky to have you as a teacher. Our hearts and prayers go out to your family, friends and students. Rest in Peace forever.

I walked into Mr. Myslin's classroom today, just wanting to give it a last look before the new teacher came in. I sat in my seat I had moved to in the middle of the year. I looked over at Mr. Myslin's desk and saw the PCS yearbook. It was a copied version with only the pictures of the incoming 10th graders. He had everyones picture and they were all neatly stapled together tucked behind a plastic book holder.

I walked over to the paper poster everyone was signing to give to his parents and everyone was talking about how he was always saying he was old. How when someone asked his age in one of our classes he said, "Oh, around 80." He always talked about how he was losing his hearing and he couldn't hear when someone was talking if another person in the room was even whispering. Now, it happened. He will be forever missed at PCS and always remembered.

Mr. Myslin was my 7th grade History teacher last year in room 12 at Pacific Collegiate School, he would always tell us funny stories about how he loved free food and about the history of history. He will be greatly missed as a teacher and a friend at PCS.

Mr. Myslin, was one of my favorite teachers. He was well prepared and very funny. Each day brought a smile to my face for his unique personality. He was a great teacher and he is not the kind of person that would be in a accident. I will never forget my favorite 50 min in his class. I was planning on going to room 12 the first day of school. Rest In Peace Mr. Myslin, you will never be forgotten.

Mr. Myslin, you will be terribly missed. You were my absolute favorite teacher. I didnt always think of you as just my teacher, but of someone who cared about me, his students, and his job. PCS will never be the same without you. It's going to be terribly sad when I walk into room 12 and not seeing you sitting at your computer, or writing up our essay question on the board. My family gives all our condolences and deep sympathy to you. Rest In Piece, Mr. Myslin. :(

While I didn't know John beyond another guy on a bike, I am touched by our loss of him and by this celebration of his life.
By 25, he has made a difference in our community which will continue.
I don't know how he would want to be remembered, but I think it can't hurt to think of him when we seek to sincerely share what we know in our hearts.
My request of cyclists is to remember John's professionalism. Our bikes do belong on the streets. Ride in a straight line at a safe distance from the curb. PLEASE use EXTREME caution if you ever pass a truck or a bus; they may not see you, and whoever is on the other side may not either.
Finally: jumping over (onto) oncoming cars has worked well for me so far...
I am so sorry for all of our loss, thank you for sharing what John meant to you

As a student at Eureka High School, I had the great priviledge of having Mr. Myslin as a substitute teacher in my history class. The few times he was our teacher, I always walked away from the class with a smile on my face and knowledge tucked away.
He was an amazing person with a superb ability to connect with his students. I felt a great liking for him and his focus on sharing knowledge.
From the few hours I was in his presence, I could tell that he put so much of himself into teaching, and he genuinely liked doing it.
Please, everyone who was graced with knowing this great man, remember him, and keep that memory in your minds for the rest of your days.
I know I will.

I saw this story on the local news, being a bicyclist myself I was shocked by the story of the accident.

This morning I read the update to the story and the bio of John, the victim; shock turned to sadness. What a loss to the world.

Heart felt condolences for his family and his students.

John Myslin must have been one of the most supportive teachers at Pacific Collegiate. Although i was never in his class, he volunteered to stay after school to supervise play and dance rehearsals for the students. These hours he spent were unpaid and greatly appreciated. I will always remember his gorgeous big brown eyes that were so warm whenever I went in his room to ask "could you possible help us after school?" his answer was always "of course."

Dear Folks,
Even though I never knew John, this event has terribly saddened me!!! It is an awful shock!!!
He was too young, and had so much more to do.
I hope you will believe how sorry I am, and I very much wish that there were some way to change things, so that this didn't even happen.
I also hope that some how after or inbetween that I will get to meet John.
Again I'm extreamly sorry, and hope that you will be ok.

Thank you for reading,
Alan

Mr. Myslin was a great guy. He had a talent for saying the most awkward things and by saying them, without meaning to, making our lives a little bit funnier. I'm never going to forget him and Rogan having strength competitions in class, or the day someone brought in a big sombrero and got a picture of Myslin wearing it. Or the time he went biking with Tozer and Eli and had to drag Eli back because his bike broke half way back from Wilder Ranch. He was so passionate about his work and he loved all his students so much. During lunch there was always a crowd of people in his room, and his classes had the most fun even if it was just a lecture. He had so much to give and it's tragic that he had so little time to give it. I hope wherever he is now he is happy.

The first time I ever met Mr. Myslin was at PCS's student orientation. The first thing that I remember about the occasion is that the new students and I were informed that he was a former a police officer. Needless to say, as he walked into the gym, with his shirt tucked neatly into his khaki pants, and wearing a pair of police issued boots, the gym went pretty silent.
However, beneath his somewhat intimidating appearance was a soft spoken man with a passion and dedication towards teaching that is rarely found. He was always willing to lend a hand to student activities, and even made time to go riding with a few of my peers up at Wilder Ranch.
He was a great guy, and we will all miss him.

John Myslin was the most dedicated teacher I have ever had the privelige to learn from and probably will ever meet. Being ready to teach us was his very top priority at all times and the dedication he brought to his job was phenominal. One the most sincere people I have known, he was passionate about his beliefs and actions and a role model for us all. We miss your presence at PCS and in this world. Peace be with you.

Wow. I can hardly believe that this has happened. Although I was not in any of his AP World History classes last year, I could tell that he was a totally awesome teacher, based on both seeing it and hearing it from others. When I attended his study session for the SAT II World History test, he had such a grasp on teaching the subject that he covered about 200 years of history in an hour. My younger brother would have been in his 7th Grade US History Class had it not been for this extremely unfortunate and untimely event. I really hope he's chilling out with Brezhnev, General Grant, and any other historical figure he idolized right now.

Mr. Myslin, as was clear to anyone who was ever in his presence, was a genuine, kind and focused person who was passionate about his work. He shared his passion with so many students, put smiles on their faces and enthusiasm into their studies. I am thankful that I was lucky enough to be one of his students at Eureka High and am grateful that I was able to experience his enthusiasm. I am praying for his family.

John, we were not able to say goodbye when we left for Houston last July 31. That was because you were hauling a truck-load of excess sand and gravel to clear your sister-in-law's backyard. I hope she will have more flowering plants there as a reminder of your incredible hardwork. You will always be missed especially on Thanksgiving Day, our next meeting.
Our heartfelt condolences to your Dad, Mom Maria, Paul, Helen, Robert and Mark.

John is my brother-in-law. He was the best man at our wedding two years ago. He and my husband shared a deep love of coins and history.

John was not afraid of hard work, and his focus was unfailing. Just last week, he dug out and moved nearly five tons of dirt from our yard. He always rose early and worked steadily, almost obsessively, until his self-imposed goals were met. Then he would go for a bike ride.

John was happy as a teacher in Santa Cruz. He looked forward to classes starting this fall. He had an entire life ahead of him, and he was sure that he was at the right place for it.

We are heartbroken that John is gone.

Mr. Myslin was such a great and devoted teacher. He loved his work and his students. He had a great personality. He was very intelligent, funny and caring. He always told the class stories about himself. It made you know him not just as a teacher, but as a person. Not only was he at school all day, but also before and after. You would also see him at PCS working hard on the weekends. He made such a difference to all the incoming 7th graders. He was such a great teacher and will be truly missed by all.

When I first read the article it was a good thing I was sitting. It genuinely felt like the ground was rolling. It wouldn't stop.
I had Mr Myslin several times as a sub at EHS. He was an amazing instructor, always getting work done while connecting with his students, endearing us to him. I know some of my peers especially respected him.
It is tragic that this happened to someone so young, so kind, so dedicated, and such a wonderful person with such opportunities still ahead of him.
My prayers go out to his family and friends.

We have just found out about Mr. Myslin and are so deeply saddened. I remember when I met him the first time. The whole room of parents lit up with smiles and laughter. He was such an articulate and wonderful person. He touched so many lives in his brief life. He taught my daughter to love history. Now, I can't get her away from the history channel. Mr. Myslin truly found his calling in life. He was an excellent teacher with such a warm, caring and dedicated personality. He always had a good story for the kids. We still can't believe he is gone from us. My deepest condolences go out to his family and all the friends whose lives he touched. He left us much too soon, but we will never forget him. He truly touched many forever!

Mr. Myslin was my 1st period History teacher. I learned soo much in my first year at PCS, that I really learned to love History. His powerpoints were always filled with facts and stories, and his homemade tests came right from them. He opened many students eyes to the past. He was sincerely loved by everyone who knew him. He will be missed by so many people. This is still so new to me that i just can't believe it is true. I along with anyone who ever met Mr. Myslin will miss him deeply.

Mr. Myslin was my daughter's history teacher last year at PCS. I remember at back to school night, meeting him for the first time. My husband & I were deeply impressed by his obvious dedication to his work as well as his sense of humor. The entire group of parents were smiling and laughing during his presentation. He had great energy and I was so thankful that my daughter could be exposed to history by someone who could present it in such a fun and rich way. I felt so sad today when I heard about his death. Mr Myslin was my History teacher for my fisrt year at PCS.Sometimes he said funny and strange things. i will miss his odd comments and great personality. He loved his job and it was probably the most important thing to him. he loved teaching students about "the wonders of history." i know that one time in class he told us that he loved Room 12 so much that when he died "i want my ashes to be spread around room 12." he brought so much to the school and everyone loved him!! he barely ever left his classroom so on rainy days you could eat in his room.I'll miss you at our school!!

Myslin was a great man, a great teacher, and a great friend. While I really only knew him as a colleague, we did share many fond stories while I was student teaching at Eureka High. Whether it was recalling Seinfeld episodes or his chalk board caricatures of Benito Mussolini it will be hard to find someone as unforgettable as that in the work place.

My sincere condolences to those family and friends who have lost a truly magnificent person.

John Myslin was a substitute teacher in our district before he got his job in Santa Cruz. Our school site ALWAYS requested him to sub for us as he was so good with the kids and so together and reliable. He was such a truly genuine person who gave everything to his profession.

Just last week I received an email from John after he heard that we were looking for a Social Science teacher. He responded that he was choosing to stay at his school and that he may be there until he retired. I want to share part of his 8/1/07 email to me - he wrote the following:

"I had a fantastic first year at Pacific Collegiate school. I especially liked teaching my 7th graders, and AP World History was a challenge but yielded some great results. I had 38 of my 45 sophomores take the AP test, and 35 passed with a 3 or more, and of those 35, 26 were scores of 4 and 5.

Next year I will have FOUR sections of AP World History, which is every sophomore at the school. That will be a lot of essays to read, but if scores come back like they did last year, it will all be worth it!"

Like I said - John gave his all. He was so very proud of his kids. He was a great person.
