Jordon Sturtevant Obituary

Jordon Carter "Sturty" Sturtevant
January 12, 1992 - October 14, 2018
Resident of Aptos
Jordon Carter Sturtevant passed away this past Sunday in Aptos at the young age of 26. Jordon was born in Santa Cruz and lived in La Selva Beach, Corralitos and Aptos, attending Bradley Elementary, Aptos Academy and Aptos High School. Jordon was a bright spirit, an artist and an avid reader. He was a tremendous natural athlete with boundless energy. He had played on the Waxem Water Polo team since 7th grade and started varsity water polo his freshman year. He graduated from Aptos High in 2010.
Jordon was a true Santa Cruz local. He loved the music, the mountains, the organic food, and of course the ocean. He loved to cook and was an artist when it came to his food. He worked as a chef for Snow White, Seascape Resort, River Street Café, West End Tap and eventually Café Cruz, which he loved. He dreamed of opening a restaurant of his own at some point. He also loved the outdoors, Death Valley of late or just camping out somewhere, anywhere, in Santa Cruz County. He had a passion for bugs and could surprisingly spurt out the habits or history of creatures most of us would never think of. He could also sing and was an animal whisperer. He was witnessed catching wild birds on more than a few occasions. (Once he caught a sparrow mid-flight, who can do that?) He also had a passion for film photography, and recently won awards at the Santa Cruz County Fair for his work.
Jordon took on life with zeal, excitement and a no-fear attitude. He saw injuries as a badge of courage, but was also pure and righteous. Many could see him skateboarding to wherever he was going with his beautiful wolf dog pulling the lead and his gorgeous, long, blonde hair blowing in the wind. He adored his dog and his beautiful girlfriend. He was loved so much and had so many friends from all walks of life. He left his mark on this town, to say the least. He will be forever loved, missed and always in our hearts.
Jordon is survived by his father Don W. Sturtevant, mother Kathleen Sturtevant, brothers Logan W. and Bill Sturtevant, sisters Carolin Rae, Courtney Lynn and Rozlyn Zelinda Sturtevant, his girlfriend Bryanna Villareal and her son Theo, grandparents Carter and Karen Engelund, grandmothers Dianne Engelund and Eleanor Z. Sturtevant, his aunt (who was like a sister to him) Kristin Engelund Harris and her husband Westly, uncles Jon and Eric Engelund, his uncle Dean and his wife Rochelle Sturtevant, cousins Jonah, Joplin and Jon Thomas Engelund, Jake, Raquel and Chanel Sturtevant, Alex and Ryan Walker, nieces Nadeen, Samantha, Josette and Zalia, nephews Gabrial, "Bubba" and other extended family and friends.
All are invited to a Celebration of Jordon's Life on Saturday October 20th at 2:00 pm at Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road in Santa Cruz. If you would like to offer condolences to Jordon's family, share your memories or light a candle in his honor, please visit www.scmemorial.com.

I wanted to share this with all of you.
It took me a little to get over the shock when I heard that morning. Once my head was clear my first thought was to go to church to see some of my friends from work. Someone asked me the other day are you religious. I think all of us are in some way, yes many may not go to church ever. Some of us are deeply religious also though, and still may never go to church. I believe most do though have a higher power, a god that we look to and or believe in. I did go to Church to talk to some of my friends because I couldn't figure out how to talk to some of our family members about something this devastating. I also wanted the prayers of a whole village to go out to all the family. I didn't really go there to pray for Jordan, he is Heaven now he is getting all the prayers God and the Angels can give for the rest of time, I went there to pray for all of YOU!
I have this Journal/Notebook I have been jotting stuff down in over the years. More recently kind of re-vamping it into a book based off a mini one I did back in high school. The Tao of Eric 1975. Be wood, be water, be air, be earth, where each one of these has roughly 1000 meanings and hundreds are described. For 3 to 5 years maybe more, 10? The things I've been jotting that I want to put in it are more akin to words of wisdom about life. Things that a Dad would tell his son, an Uncle would tell his Nephew, a Teacher or Mentor would tell their Student. You know things we learn in life, things we know about that we want to pass on. Epiphanies we learn as we get older. Every time I do that or get one of those I always want to share that with Jordan. I couldn't always reach him, but he was the first I always thought of at the time.
The second thing I thought and wanted to do that day was to head to the Mountains, into the wilderness. Drink a beer or take a shot for Jordan. I didn't do that though, so I could stick around and support the Family. Really though I go there to get grounded, no cell phones no lights tv roads houses people. To get down and in touch with Mother Earth, Terra, Gaia, the Great Mother, the Mother Goddess, whatever you call Her. That's my Church. I know Jordan would dig that getting away up to the Mountains, somewhere new maybe, somewhere unseen before, somewhere beautiful. I'm off work tomorrow, so I think I will head up there, camera in hand see if I can't get that once in a lifetime awesome shot? Maybe I'll see that skateboard skimming across the water.
