Kay Gadsby Obituary

Kay Gadsby
November 7, 1935 - April 18, 2022
Soquel
Kay Louise (Putnam) Gadsby passed away the afternoon of Monday April 18, 2022. She was greatly loved by her daughter Trish Ward (Greg Heier), grandsons Tanner Tedsen (Abigail O'Loughlin) Chase Tedsen, and her sister Nancy Carroll. Kay's son Michael preceded her in death as well as her parents and brother. Her most beloved dog Mattie also left us last year.
Kay came into the world as Kay Louise Putnam in Watsonville and lived her formative years there. She graduated from Watsonville High School in 1953 then went on to finish school at San Jose State where she obtained her teaching credential and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Kay married Bob Gadsby in the summer of 1957 and began a career as a teacher that Fall. They had two children and she left the teaching profession when Michael was born. In 1974 she moved back to Santa Cruz County and returned to the workforce in the accounting department of Ford's Dept store in Watsonville until 1977. She then joined the staff of the Santa Cruz Sentinel spending many years in the circulation department where she made lifelong friends. She retired from the Sentinel in 1995.
Kay was an outgoing, friendly, sassy spirit who made many friends throughout her life. She thoroughly enjoyed walking Mattie each day and loved her Cliffwood Estates neighbors. Her Grandsons were the apple of her eye and Mattie was her most precious friend and companion. Kay will be missed.
We thank the caregivers at De Un Amor in Corralitos for their care of Kay over the past few months. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter. There are no services planned at this time.

I will never forget Kay! A friend to everyone, curious, smart, and sassy!
Many a late night at the Sentinel getting the job done, from pitching in by delivering a route to assisting the programmers with our initial computerized systems. She never refused a task, an important member of our team. Trish, thinking of you and family during this time. Kay will never be forgotten.
