Kenneth Manrubia Obituary

Kenneth Harold Manrubia
Aug. 2, 1963 - July 12, 2017
Resident of Santa Cruz
Kenneth Harold Manrubia unexpectedly, but peacefully passed away during sleep in his home in Santa Cruz on July 12, 2017. He was 53 years young. Ken was born to Laura Prime and Robert Manrubia in Redwood City, California on August 2, 1963.
Ken played, road bikes and motorcycles in the open fields in Morgan Hill while he was growing up then later lived in Wichita Kansas, San Jose, and Sacramento, before finally residing in the eclectic town of Santa Cruz.
Ken attended P.A. Walsh School then Live Oak High School. While living in Kansas, Ken married Lori Gonzales, rose to the rank of sergeant in the Air Force, and welcomed the birth of his first son Shaun. Later, Ken moved to San Jose, and married Debby Guidinger on his birthday in 1992. He worked as a Civil Engineer Draftsman then bought the family Commercial Door Hardware business from his Step-father Dewey and partnered with his Step-brother Don. Ken and Debby welcomed the birth of Ken's second son Kai on December 17, 2002. He proudly watched his sons surf, and ride motorcycles.
Outside of family, and friends, rock music was Ken's passion. He was 15 when he attended his first concert and never lost the thrill of seeing live music. He had the rare privilege of maintaining close friendships with some lasting over 40 years.
Those who live on are his wife Debby, sons Shaun, his wife Michelle and Kai. Sister Elisa, nieces April, Ashley, Addy, and Fiona. Mother Laura, Father Robert and many aunts, and uncles, and cousins as well as Step-brother Don and brothers Terry and Brian. Those who passed before Ken were his Step-father Dewey, and brothers John and James.
A memorial service will be held for Ken at Messiah Lutheran Church at 801 High Street, in Santa Cruz at 1p.m. on Sunday July 23, 2017. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, the ALS Foundation or the American Heart Association. Ken will be deeply missed. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother and friend.
The family will hold a celebration of life party for Ken and James on August 5, 2017, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post 99 event center in Campbell California. Live music by the lake will be enjoyed by all.
