Marietta Mack Obituary

Marietta Augusta Mack
May 27, 1938 ~ April 7, 2021
La Selva Beach, CA
Marietta Augusta (Medeiros) Mack, 82, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on April 7, 2021, after embracing cancer over the past 12 years. Marietta was born May 27, 1938, in East Falmouth, Massachusetts, the last of nine children born to Joseph and Augusta Medeiros.
Immediately following graduation from Lawrence High School in Falmouth, Marietta left the Cape in 1956 and ventured west to live with her sister Margaret, beginning her adult life in sunny California as a dental assistant in Anaheim. She adapted quickly and purchased a 1957 Ford convertible coupe as her first car. While working chairside at the dental office, Marietta met her future husband David Mack, a young firefighter, in 1958. They married soon after meeting and had one child, Kevin. Over the course of her husband's ambitious 36-year career with (now) CAL FIRE, Marietta disassembled and furnished many homes up and down the state, doing so with an ever-evolving appreciation for tastefulness and warmth. Along those stops, she continued initially as a dental assistant and then as an office manager for several dental practices. She made a lot of dear friends during her support of her husband's career – she was a constant source of energy and happiness socially and to her immediate and extended family.
After many moving vans, Marietta finally settled in a home near the ocean in 1986, a surrounding she had loved as a child and coveted throughout her adventures. In retirement, Marietta and David became active parishioners at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola and at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Watsonville, and Marietta served as lector at both parishes. She very much enjoyed the social benefits of participating as a weekly money counter and as a member of the parish knitting group at St. Joseph's, and through her volunteer efforts at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.
Always, Marietta was generous of heart, she encouraged laughter, and she possessed an enthusiastic sense of style and self. The abundance of love she had for her family and her grandson has left an imprint on our hearts and minds that will remain with us always. Marietta leaves her loving husband of 63 years, David Mack; her child and his spouse, Kevin and Meg (Weber), and her grandson, Ryan. Marietta was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Sonny, Joe, and Norman, and her sisters Alice, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Lucille. She is survived by her sister, Judy Baker.
A private memorial celebration of Marietta's life will be held at a later date.

Aunt Mals wasn't only an amazing wife, mother and grandmother, she was an incredible aunt that was full of good advice, laughter and a little high jinks too. That incredible smile was contagious and although small in stature, she totally the life of the party. I will miss her solid advice and her love for her family.
