Marion Webster Obituary

Marion passed away January 6, 2010 with loving friends and family at her side in Santa Cruz, CA. She was 102 years and one month old.

Marion was born December 6, 1907 in San Francisco. She was very proud to be the daughter of survivors of the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Clinton established a home across the bay in Alameda where Marion attended local schools, graduating from Alameda High School. Marion excelled at all sports especially swimming and high diving events, even attracting Olympic consideration. After school Marion found work in San Francisco where she lost her heart to another San Francisco native, William W. Webster. They started a cross bay romance that resulted in a loving partnership that spanned 65 years. They married at Mission Carmel in 1936.

During her San Francisco years, Marion worked at the Geary and Curran Theatres, and the San Francisco Opera House. Marion moved to Riverside when her husband Bill was transferred to southern California working for the State of California.

In Riverside Marion studied and refined her knowledge and love of antiques and collectibles. She owned and operated several antique stores in the Riverside area. Marion did frequent appraisals and conducted many private and bank estate sales.

Marion and Bill led a full social life; both enjoyed playing golf and traveling with friends and family. After Bill retired in 1973, they moved to Santa Cruz and established their home by the sea at De Anza Estates. There, they were quite active with the parks activities, met many new friends and set out on travels around the world.

Marion found time in 1976 to co-found the De Anza Questers, Chapter 827 and continued to enjoy this organization, serving as an officer and loyal member for many years.

Marion was quite passionate about shopping and looking for the eternal bargain wherever it was to be found ""And that did mean anywhere!

Always ready to embark on a new adventure, her favorite mode of exploration was on cruises with old and new friends.

She was very proud of her Irish heritage and St. Patrick's Day was always a gala event.

Marion enjoyed every moment of her life to the utmost. She always loved people and preferred to collect friends instead of things. She lived independently until the age of 99. At that time she moved to a new lifestyle at Sunshine Villa in Santa Cruz where she was treated like royalty. Thank you Sunshine for your care.

Marion was a remarkable, elegant lady. Friends and family will always remember her wit, honesty, generosity, endless energy and boundless enthusiasm. Marion truly had a zest for life and lived it all the way.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Santa Cruz for the care and comfort to Marion and the family.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years William W. Webster, brothers; William Clinton and Jack Clinton, her sister Bernice Clinton and her treasured sister-in-law Vivian Clinton. She was also predeceased by her nephew Tim, and nieces Terry and Kelley Clinton.

Marion is survived by her son William W. Webster Jr., Granddaughters Denise Morris and Jen Malone, 9 great-grandchildren, the Clinton nephews; Bill, Mike and Pat and nieces; Barbara and Louise.

Services will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. Santa Cruz, on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 11 o'clock a.m.

A private interment is scheduled for a later date.
