Marshall Phillips Obituary

Marshall Lewis Phillips
November 25, 1953 - March 2, 2013
Resident of Santa Cruz
Marshall was 59 when he went home to see his beloved Jesus, grandmother, parents and past friends. He loved life and was always a humble man.
Born in Hollywood, he was a native of Santa Cruz County. He grew up on a ranch on Calabasas Rd. He always loved football and he played high school ball at Watsonville and Aptos High. Marshall went on to later referee football and coach a number of little league teams.
He loved his kids, family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, his houseboat, cars, and traveling. He enjoyed annual trips to Iowa to visit family, friends and to help in the corn harvest. Marshall was a Christian man who always forgave quickly, gave overwhelmingly and loved eternally. He was in the real estate business before working nearly 30 years at Safeway but he never gave up his passion for real estate. He obtained a lot in life and achieved success throughout, but always remained a humble man. If asked he would have told you that none of his possessions mattered because he would have given them all away.
He is survived by his children Jason and Michelle, his grandkids Yvette and Elijah, his sister Debra and many nieces and nephews. Marshall was a father, a grandpa, a mentor, and a friend to many in the community. He will be extremely missed. The service, opern to all of his friendsfrom the community, will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 2:00pm at Santa Cruz Memorial ~ Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz. Marshall was a good man. Went to high school with him. My daughter also worked with him for awhile and she liked him too. Why do the good people seem to pass way before their time? Dance with the angels my brother.

I just heard of your passing tonight on one of my late night stops to Safeway. I hadn't been in there for a while and wondered why I hadn't seen you. So sad to hear of your passing. You were always kind and fun to talk to. You will be missed. RIP Marshall.

Marshall had such a kind heart and a lovely smile to match.Although, I hadn't known him very long, that didn't stop him from offering a helping hand when it was needed. His kindness and gentle soul has touched my daughter's and my heart. RIP Marshall, you earned it.

Marshall was a good man. I've never seen him without his open heart and smile. I've been blessed to have known him since the good old days of Aptos High. My daughter Caylee worked with him at Safeway. She said Marshall always liked to remind her of our days back then. I will miss him. My condolences to his family.
