Meilan Chu Kuo

Meilan Chu Kuo went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2022 in Santa Cruz, California. She was born in Quanzhou, Fujian, China on December 15,1954 to Dr. Yi-Zhou Zhu and pharmacist Yaxi Wu. Meilan was the youngest daughter of six children. Growing up, she was an outstanding member of the Quanzhou Sizhong High School singing and dance teams. She worked as a dermatology nurse in China. She married Kuang-Han Kuo in April 1979 in Zhangzhou China. In 1983, Meilan immigrated from China to Santa Cruz, California. For nearly 20 years, Meilan worked as a waitress at China Station restaurant in the evenings and during the day she cared for her in-laws, Shufan Kuo and Lena Kuo, until they both passed away. She then worked for UC Santa Cruz hospitality until she retired. Meilan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. Meilan is survived by her husband Kuang-Han Mark Kuo, daughter Angela En-Jie Kuo Choy, son Samuel En-Tao Kuo, granddaughter Alison Sheng-Ru Choy, grandsons Elijah Sheng-Hao Choy, Ian Sheng-Ming Kuo, and Evan Sheng-Qian Kuo. She loved them dearly. Meilan was born into a devout Christian family. She was an active member of the Church in Santa Cruz from the time she moved to Santa Cruz. She will be remembered for her devotion to upkeeping the church facilities and beautiful singing voice. Her favorite hymn was "Take It To The Lord in Prayer". Meilan will be remembered best by her generosity and selflessness. Always quick to help others and always cheerful. She expressed her love with gifts of delicious home made food and home grown fruits. Upon every encounter with her, one would never leave empty handed.The name Meilan translated from Chinese is "beautiful orchid". She was indeed the most beautiful woman, inside and out.
