Patricia Childers Obituary

Patricia Ann Childers
September 24, 1927 - September 5, 2013
Resident of Capitola
Patricia Ann Childers passed away quietly on September 5th, 2013 after a brief and unexpected illness. Patricia was born to Signe & Andre Johnson in 1924 in Mt. Vernon, New York. She attended Hall High School in West Hartford as Patricia Grayson and belonged to the Delta Sigma Delta Sorority. Patricia and her mother moved to Southern California in 1945, where she graduated from Hollywood High. Patricia met her husband, George Childers, while working for a bank in Southern California. They married in August of 1946 and had four sons together. Patricia and George moved to Santa Cruz in 1960, where George's parents had a small ranch in Capitola. They eventually parted, but always remained connected through their children until George passed away in 1979. She has lived in Capitola for the past 33 years.
Patricia is survived by her four sons Art Childers, Ed Childers (Margie), Tim Childers (Deborah), and Chris Childers; grandchildren Dominique Childers, Jerry Childers, Tim Childers (Becky); great-grandchildren Max Childers, Will Childers and Dominic Childers; her cousin Dorothy Loewenberg (Richard) of Plymouth, Massachusetts, her cousin Arne Wallgren of Sweden, and her very dear friends Sally Johnson Barney and Martha Barajas.
Patricia grew up in the heart of her closely-knit Swedish family, was proud of her Swedish heritage, spoke Swedish on occasion, and shared many colorful stories from her girlhood days. She co-owned and operated Fabric Faire for many years in Aptos and later worked as the Office Manager for Vessey Drugs in the Rancho del Mar Shopping Center until retiring in 1994. In retirement, Patricia was able to actively pursue her love of art, creating paintings, collages, greeting cards, and children's books which she donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Patricia also volunteered as a pink lady for many years at Dominican Hospital in the ICU.
The family would like to thank Dominican Hospital for their loving care and support.
At Patricia's request, no formal services will be held. Contributions in Patricia's memory may be made to the Arts Council Santa Cruz County, 1070 River Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, or to a charitable organization of your choice.
