Peter Tessitore Obituary

Santa Cruz, CA
Peter was born and raised in the Bronx, New York City to a close Italian family. He passed away at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto as a result of cancer. Peter was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and served honorably as a door gunner for the 118th Assault Helicopter Company during the Vietnam War, including the Tet Offensive of 1968. He resided in Santa Cruz County for 34 years and was a Charter Member of VFW #5888 Bill Motto Peace Post. Peter was predeceased by his parents Nicola and Mildred Maltese Tessitore and his siblings. He is survived by six nieces and nephews and their children. He is also survived by his local veteran friends. Peter was a devout Catholic and did his best to be a kind and generous person. He was very appreciative of the help he received from the staff of Santa Cruz County Veterans Services and the VA Supportive Housing Program (HUD/VASH). A graveside service with military honors will be held at Santa Cruz Memorial Cemetery, 1927 Ocean St. on Friday, December 9th at 3 p.m.

Pete and I grew up together in Throggs neck. We were best friends. We went on our first date together, we did everything together. We laughed a lot. I was usually the one making Pete laugh. His parents were great people who accepted me as a son. Pete and I were both born in 1945 and were drafted into the Army when we were both 21yrs old on April 12, 1966. (Nick) Pete's Dad drove us to Whitehall st for induction. I share many memories with Pete both Boyhood and early Manhood. I miss those days and I miss My friend Pete.
