The recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday and Friday for Rebecca Escamilla, who passed away on Christmas Day at Dominican Hospital with her loving family at her bedside. Born in San Jose, California, she was 53 years old.
Becky was raised in Boulder Creek, and graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School. She worked as a travel agent and consultant with a career spanning over 20 years. At the time of her passing, she enjoyed a career for the past 8 years as travel coordinator for Stanford University's Athletic Programs. Becky loved working with the student athletes and coaching administration at Stanford, and leaves many dear friends and colleagues whose friendships she deeply treasured.
Her profession allowed her to visit many destinations including The Holy Land, Alaska, numerous ocean cruises, and San Francisco Giants spring training in Arizona. She was a huge fan of both the Giants, and of course, Stanford Athletics.
Becky was a former Sunday School teacher at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Boulder Creek where she attended before recently moving to Castroville. Her family was her greatest joy and of the upmost importance in her life. Becky's nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones will always remember her love and devotion for them all, and the pride she beamed with in all their accomplishments. She will also be missed by her four cats and any animal that she had the ability to care for.
She is survived by her father, Javier Escamilla; three brothers; Carlos, Juan, and Roberto Escamilla; her sister and brother-in-law Dora and Joseph Ortega, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. Becky was preceded in death by her mother, Isabel, and her nephew, Matthew.
The rosary will be recited on Thursday December 29, 2016 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz, beginning at 6 p.m. The mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Boulder Creek, beginning at 11 a.m. The committal will follow that afternoon at Santa Cruz Park. Any kind acts of charity can be made in her memory to the S.P.C.A.

Becky was a member of our Stanford Crew team during her years of service with Stanford University athletics. Her proficiency, dedication and smile delivered our student athletes to competitions around the world. Becky was a 24/7 contributor. Her uplifting presence will be missed and her memory will be cherished. She will always bring a smile to our team and we will race with her spirit in our shells.
