Sarah Hack-Hoffman died suddenly on the evening of August 20th from heart failure. Sarah was 48 years old.
Sarah arrived in the world en route to the hospital in her mother's friends new 1961 Mercedes Benz on Feb 9. She grew up with her family in Belvedere, California.
Sarah attended Marin Country Day School and Marin Academy. She went on to U.C. Santa Barbara and received a nursing degree from U.S.C.
She is survived by her loving family, son Joseph, parents John and Mary Molly Hofmann, brother John Hofmann Trip of Corte Madera and sisters Gretchen of Carbondale, Colorado, and Joan and husband David Alexander of Moscow, Idaho, nieces Whitney and Eva Will, Emily and Olivia Alexander, and nephew Jackson Alexander.
Most of her adult life Sarah married, lived, parented and worked in Santa Cruz County, specializing in geriatrics care.
We shall always treasure Sarah's spontaneity and sense of humor. Sarah was a devoted mother to her son Joseph, honeymooned in the Mexican Caribbean and also traveled extensively with her family and friends through more memorable times during her life.
A memorial service will be held for family and invited guests on Saturday, August 29th in Marin County.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to either Marin Country Day school, address: 5221 Paradise Dr., Corte Madera, CA 94925, or Gateway School, 126 Eucalyptus Ave., Santa Cruz, CA 95060 or your favorite charity.

Blessings to you Sarah in your journey. I so fondly remember sitting with you in your bedroom reading and sharing your favorite stories...It brought to you and I such mutual joy. You were so open in your wonderment and thinking during those moments, Thank you for the many travels to magical places. You are part of the compassionate person I have become.

Sarah was Trip's little sister to me. Fun, willing to try anything. For all of you I knew when we were young, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I too remember Sarah from MCDS as a kind, charismatic, funny and beautiful girl. Some of our Class of 1974 have been finding each other on Facebook and Sarah was one of the people I had tried to track down as I always wonder what happenned to this really special person.
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Sarah's family.

Hi David and Joe, I knew Sarah when I was a teacher at Marin Country Day School in the '70's. After 35 years of teaching she was one of my favorites (yes teachers have favorites) for many reasons. I am very saddened to hear of her death and join you in wishing your son's memories of her will guide him.

Joe & I will miss you Sarah. Your son loves you so much so please help guide him from your place in heaven. Your heart might have failed you in the physical sense but all of those you have left behind know you have a heart of gold. Be at peace.
