Sean Thayer Obituary
Services will be held in Soquel on April 26th for Sean Thayer, who passed away peacefully at his home on April 21, following a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer.
He was 35 years old, born August 14, 1975. Sean was a long time resident of Santa Cruz County, growing up in Aptos, and attending Soquel High School. He was a talented bass guitar player, who performed with his bands from an early age. Sean worked in roofing construction with a career that spanned over 15 years, and he leaves many friends and colleagues in the industry.
His friends and family will forever remember Sean's love and enthusiasm for skateboarding, ocean fishing, and riding through the Santa Cruz mountains and beyond on his beloved Husqvarna 610 Supermoto.
He was a member of the Russian Orthodox Church, and attended the Old Cathedral of the Holy Virgin in San Francisco, where he was baptized last year.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Julia and Milo Simpkins of Auburn, California, and his father and step-mother David and Joyce Thayer of Corralitos. He also leaves his brother and sister-in-law Marcus and Annette Thayer of Capitola, and his Sister Heather and brother-in-law Steve Byrd of Rocklin, CA. He will be deeply missed by nieces Daisy and Lily Thayer, and nephews Austin, Dillon, and Nathan Byrd. Lastly, he leaves his long-time girlfriend Victoria Maguire. The family wishes to express genuine heartfelt gratitude to her for her love and devotion to Sean throughout his time of need.
A graveside service will be held at Soquel Cemetery on Tuesday, April 26th beginning at 11 a.m. with burial to follow. Directly afterwards Sean's friends and extended family are invited to celebrate his life at his brother's home on Depot Hill at 212 Escalona Dr. in Capitola, CA 95010.

I went to school New Brighton Middle School with Sean. While visiting my sister who is buried at Soquel Cemetery, I came upon Sean's grave. I was shocked to learn Sean had passed away. Its been a longtime since I last saw him. But I do remember him and those blue eyes of his. He was such a sweetheart. May rest peacefully Sean.

Sean. Wow. We went through the good and the craziest times together. Sean used to play endless hours of basslines while I learned how to play the drums. We would rock out for hours and hours! He was a 4x4 fanatic and taught me everything about anything he was doing to modify his awesome trucks. Even made me help him on a roof job in salinas in 100•. Such a sweetheart even during the roughest times. Last time I saw Sean he had sk8board in hand and was grinning@ me across the counter @ Gayle's bakery where I used to work. He was short a few bucks for what he wanted, so I looked around ...and stuffed a bunch of extra gorgonzola pasta and garlic bread in his bag...sorry Gayle's!
Anyways, I've always loved Sean..and always will. RIP sweetie

Sean you are soo dearly missed by all. Not a day goes by that I dont think of you and how joyful you were. I love you Sean and I am soo thankful you came back into my life before you passed. Hey my brother, its been a real long time since we hung. A long time since we thrashed, since we upset our parents, and long time since we rocked out the world together, but it seems like just yesterday. It seems like just yesterday we where listening to Black Flag and The cure and whatever roots reggae we where into, trading tapes and swapping records, skating around Santa Cruz and living the life we where given to its fullest. Those where amazing times, and those times are some of the most memorable times I have ever had. I keep them close to me always. I know you are just on the other side of the fence waiting for all of us to come over and say hello again. To have fun again. Life is too short to not enjoy yourself and not to explore the areas that most people don't have time to explore, that most people don't have time to enjoy, or even see. But you saw it, and you lived it, and you enjoyed it. You lived tough, and you lived your life how you saw it meant to be lived. We all have to admire that. Most people will never know what that even means, and thats why you lived strong. I'll have to admit it breaks my heart not knowing we aren't going to be hanging out at a park with our kids talking about the good old days, but the strong can move on, like you on the other side. I love you my brother and please rest forever in peace.

Sean it was a great pleasure being a part of ur life and i'm thankful to have known u. RIP homie. Your talents on bass and cool demeanor couldn't be rivaled by anyone else I knew when I moved to Santa Cruz. You were loved by many. You were the first one I met when I moved to SC as a freshmen at Soquel High and through music you helped make me feel more comfortable and less like an outcast out of the kindness of your heart.
