Stanley Monteith Obituary

Dr. Stanley Kimball Monteith
Feb. 17, 1929 - Sept. 29, 2014
Resident of Soquel
Dr. Monteith went home to be with the Lord on September 29, 2014. He was born and raised in Oakland, CA. After high school, he started his training as a medical doctor, recieving his doctorate of medicine degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He would then join the Army, and served in the Army Medical Corps in Germany from 1953 to 1955. It was there he met and married Marjorie Murchison, the mother of his two children. After returning from his military service, he returned to the University of San Francisco where he continued his medical education and received his degree as an Orthopedic Surgeon in 1959.
In 1960, he came to Santa Cruz, where he began his private practice as an Orthopedic Surgeon. He was well respected by his patients and the people he worked with.
He lost Marjorie at the end of 1973. Several months later, he met his current wife, Barbara. In 1974, they moved to Bloemfontein, South Africa, where he taught Orthopedic Surgery. He also researched much historical information. In 1977, they returned to Santa Cruz where he resumed his private Orthopedic practice.
In 1993, he decided to retire and start doing a radio program, which he called Radio Liberty. It was a local program for a while, but soon he was doing the program on several stations, and eventually heard by a worldwide audience.
He had the privilege of interviewing many very knowledgeable people. He helped more people than we may ever know to understand the background of world events, and the spiritual battle that revolved around those world events.
During his younger years, he enjoyed dancing, the outdoors, hiking and fishing. The one thing he truly enjoyed was studying history. It helped him very much as he hosted Radio Liberty.
We may never know on this earth the impact he had on the many people who listened to his radio program. He received many letters from people who were so grateful for his efforts, and the fact that through him they had come to know the Lord as their Savior.
He leaves behind his wife, Barbara, children David and Suzanne, stepson David Culp, grandchildren- Benjamin, Jennifer and Chelsea, and great grandchildren- Bella and Eli.
Private services were held on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Oakwood Memorial Park with family in attendance. If you would like to offer condolences to Dr. Monteith's family, share your memories and light a candle in his honor, please visit www.scmemorial.com

I didn't always agree with Dr. Stan, but he was an exceptionally kind, endearing and God-fearing man who I will miss greatly. He had a gentlemanly character about himself that seemed to pass warmth and goodness on to others. His passing is a loss for both family and community.

Dr. Monteith was and is the closest personal example I have ever seen of a disciple of Christ. Instead of retiring into leisure, he poured his life and time into seeking the truth and doing his utmost to share that truth with others in an understandable fashion. He also provided a forum for other great teachers to share their knowledge with us via his radio broadcasts. I learned so much from listening to him. I am grateful to him, and I will miss his reassuring voice on the radio. Thankfully he left many recordings. My gratitude to his wife Barbara and his family for making this ministry possible. "Well done, good and faithful servant." You are in my prayers.

My neck trouble was going nowhere until Dr Monteith went to work on it. He told me: "things will start moving forward now.." and that is just what happened. Great doctor; thank you.

I am writing this from the island of Gozo, in the Mediterranean where I now live. Thank you for fixing my knee in 1970. It still works. I will remember you not as a surgeon but as an exceptionally kind man. I expect you are now doing wing repairs on the wings of Angels. Thank you for your kindness Dr Monteith. It helped.

Dr. Stan,
Thank you for all you have done for the cause of Christian Liberty in America. You will be sorely missed. I know you are in a better place. My deepest condolences to David Monteith, my good friend from Baymonte Christian School.
