BETTY LANGLEY

BETTY LANGLEY AUGUST 18, 1941 - JANUARY 16, 2013 Betty Langley completed her journey into the arms of our Lord on January 16, 2013 Betty was born on August 18, 1941 in Indianapolis to Elmer and Martha Slaughter. Moving with her parents to Monroe, Louisiana, she graduated from Neville High School and attended Rice University for two years. In 1963 she married John Richard Dunn and gave birth to two boys, William Carlton Dunn of Cape Coral, Florida and John Robert Dunn of Flower Mound, Texas. Following this union, Betty married James O. Langley to whom she was married 36 years until her death. She is survived by her husband Jim, her two sons, Carlton and John Robert, a stepson James O. Langley, Jr. of Cypress, Texas and a stepdaughter, Dana Jean Harris of Houston, Texas, and a sister Jeanne Guillory of Richmond, Texas; a niece, Julie Goodwin of Richmond, Texas and a nephew, Eric Swan of Abita Springs, Louisiana. She is also survived by Carlton's wife, Betty Dunn and three grandsons, James Franklin, John Patrick and William Andrew; John Robert's wife, Alicia; and James, Jr's wife, Teri, and granddaughter Ashleigh; Dana's son, Steven and wife Sommer and two great grandchildren, Leland and Devyn. During her marriage to Jim, Betty was very active working in the insurance business. She developed an expertise in placing the more difficult coverage's such as medical, oilrigs and associated facilities. In 1977 Betty and Jim moved to London and she became associated with a London insurance firm and was among the first Women allowed to broker on the floor of Lloyds of London. Upon their return to Houston in 1979, Betty returned to Rice University and graduated in 1980 with a degree in History. Upon moving to Dallas in 1985, Betty became active in a charitable organization known as the "Texas Tycoon Gala"; whose goal was to raise $10 million for medical research into stroke and injury induced spinal paralysis. She coordinated major social events for three years during which time the goal was reached. In 2001, Betty and Jim moved to her beloved Santa Fe. She became involved in the Santa Fe Concert Association as a Board Member and committee chair. Betty and Jim have owned a home in Rockport, Texas since 1978. During that time Betty again made many contributions to the community. She was a Lifetime Member of the Rockport Center for the Arts as well as the Texas Maritime Museum. She was a loyal supporter of the Odyssey After School Enrichment Program. Betty was much loved by her family and her many friends. She will be remembered For her enthusiasm for life and her ever present smile. A Remembrance Service will be held at the Charlie Marshall Funeral Home Chapel in Rockport, Texas on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 2 pm. Inquiries 1-800-428-2922.
