CHRISTOPHER A. SANCHEZ
Chris A. Sanchez, Master Mechanic, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025 in Alburquerque. He was born on the feast of Corpus Christi on May 31, 1959 to Ramon N. and Consuelo (Connie) Sanchez in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Chris attended Kaune, Harrington, Santa Fe High and the Vo-Tech schools, graduating in 1978. From a young age Chris was always curious about how anything mechanical operated. Chris especially enjoyed his auto mechanics classes with Mr. Gonzalez and all his lifelong buddies.
He will always be remembered for his ability to identify mechanical problems and then fix them.
After high school he went to work for General Pumice Company as the assistant plant operator. He operated the conveyors, crushers and screens that prepared pumice to be shipped out for use in soap, stonewashed jeans, roofing and a variety of other items. He enjoyed operating the D-4 dozer, Michigan loader, and dump trucks and maintaining the Semi-trucks. He worked there for 20 years until it closed. He then went to work at Mika's Motorcycle Shop where he enjoyed working on a variety of motorcycles, interacting with the customers, and always making new friends.
Chris was an avid supporter, participant and sponsor for the annual Wings for Hope Toy Run. He was a member of the Eagles Club, the Cofradia de Nuestra Senora La Conquistadora, and a lifelong parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Margaret. He was also preceded by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Avelino Sanchez, Sr. of La Villita, Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Alarid and Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Rael of Santa Fe. He was also preceded by many dear uncles. aunts and cousins from the Sanchez, Alarid and Rael families.
He is survived by his brother Alfonso and wife Cynthia Sanchez of Las Cruces, his nephew Ramon L. Sanchez and wife Katy and their children Lilliana, Nina and Magdalena Sanchez of Littleton, Colorado, and his niece Lorena Sanchez Lozano and husband Alex and their son Alex Alfonso Lozano of Las Cruces. Chris was also blessed with many dear cousins and friends who visited and prayed for him during his illness.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday, January 15th at 7:00 p.m. by Los Caballeros de Vargas at Berardinelli Family Funeral Home. On Thursday January 16, a scriptural rosary will be recited beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Osage Avenue in Santa Fe. A burial will follow at Rosario Cemetery and then a reception will be held at Berardinelli/McGee Life Event Center across from Berardinelli Family Funeral Services.
