Herbert Joe Romero age 72 of Nambe, NM passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at his home in Fairview unexpectedly. Herbert was born on June 19, 1950, in Nambe, NM to Juan B. and Eduvigen Romero.
Herbert is survived by his 4 daughters-Carmella Velarde (Audelio) of Chimayo, Laura Romero (Rosendo) of Fairview, Missy Quintana-Mitchell (Derrell) of California, and Anna Martinez (Pat) of Chimayo. His grandchildren Unity (Iven), Joshua, Bria, Rayna, Annjenesse and Shannon, and great grandson Marcos. His 6 survived siblings include-Helen Gomez (Philip) of El Rancho, Tony Romero (Priscilla) of Espanola, Alvera Edmonds of Alcalde, Emily Lopez (Gene) of Los Alamos, Ted Romero (Mary) of LaVillita, and Leroy Romero (Liz) of Medanales.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents Juan B. and Eduvigen Romero, sister Mary Jane Rascon, niece Edwina Chavez, son-in-law Peter Velarde, and brother-in-law Eddie Edmonds.
Herbert worked in construction most of his life which led him to his career at La Posada de Santa Fe where he worked for over 20 years, he truly loved his job at La Posada. He worked until his final day, and he would not miss a day of work. His advice to everyone, "just go to work." Herbert was passionate about downtown Santa Fe and knew every shop, restaurant and gallery. He met people from all around the world, who sent gifts and letters to him over the years.
Herbert also loved his classic oldie cars and riding his Harley Davidsons. We all envision him in his leather jacket and biker bandana. Herbert had a personality that lit up a room everywhere he went, he was ever so joyful and a pleasure to be around. He was a legend at "La Posada de Santa Fe." His departure has left a tremendous void in many families, friends, work colleagues, and visitors at La Posada and his ever so faithful dog, "Bronson."
Herbert also leaves behind his dear friends Priscilla, Annette, and Maria. Many nieces, nephews, friends, and coworkers.
Services are as follows:
A viewing on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 @ 2 pm, at Rivera Funeral Home 417 East Rodeo Rd. Santa Fe, NM. Mass and funeral service to be held on Friday, December 9, 2022 @ 2 pm: The Sagrado Corazón de Jesus church located in Nambe, 2 miles east of Highway 84/285 on NM 503.
A reception will be held following the burial of the ashes and a location will be announced at that time.
Father Pretto will be officiating, serving as pallbearers are Rosendo Bahena, Audelio Mendez, Joshua Velarde, Ivan Cepeda, Michael Chavez and Matthew Edmonds.
The family of Herbert J. Romero would like to thank everyone who has joined us during this time of sorrow and loss, many have shared their good times, laughter, jokes, and many sayings of our beloved Herbert.
