James Eugene "Gene" Garrett

JAMES EUGENE GARRETT (GENE) James Eugene Garrett (Gene), 83 of Santa Fe, NM passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014. James E. Garrett lovingly known as "Gene" started his career farming in Clovis, NM. After moving to Albuquerque James began his 50 years of hotel experience with Roger Cox Brokerage. Gene continued with his reputation for his strategic business moves in the hotel industry as a broker in the 1960's into the 1980's. Gene is the longtime owner of Garrett's Desert Inn located in Santa Fe, NM and Hotel Don Fernando in Taos, NM. Gene's immense capacity for love of family and contribution to Santa Fe, Taos, and the state of New Mexico will continue to live on through all of us for many years to come. James is preceded in death by his parents, John Garrett Jr. and Irene Garrett, sister, Annette Ellison and brother, Malcom Garrett. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Garrett of Santa Fe, NM children and stepchildren: Zane Garrett (Paul Kline) of Clovis, NM, Brad Garrett of Rio Rancho, NM, Scott Garrett (Kim) of Sioux Falls, SD, Haley K. White of Santa Fe, NM, William O. White of Santa Fe, NM, Vanessa Perez of Santa Fe, NM, Becky McCauley of Albuquerque. A Service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with a Memorial following at Garrett's Desert Inn, 311 Old Santa Fe Trail Santa Fe, NM 87501 (505)982-1851.
